ok if a buy SSR now I get:

80 points (2006 I have to use up before Jan. 08)
160 points (2007 points)
160 points again in Dec. (UY)

would I pay maintanence on just the remaining months of 2007 or all of 07?

If you bought at SSR now & your settlement date is the end of July or August but your usage year is Dec 2006. You would pay a prorated dues to cover until Dec 1 2007. Then you would have a full year's dues for the next year beginning Dec 1, 2007 thru Nov 30 of 2008.

We did not have to pay any dues for the 2006 points. We banked all of our 2006 points for the 2 contracts that we bought. I dont know anything about the "half points used by Dec." part of the deal. Our use year is Dec. but we have 7 months from the contract date to use our double developer points so ours have to be used by mid-January. The minimum purchase was 100 points for current DVC members.

We had no trouble making reservations with these points but they were handled a little different, took a little extra time on the phone with MS. MS had to call to another department and they made the reservations and then they send a confirmation letter. It was all very simple. The fun part was deciding how to use all the extra points that we had!!

so since we're planning to go in Dec... it would probably be to my advantage to wait a few months to buy....then we could use the 2006 points.. .bank the 2007 and get the 2008 in Dec?

I would really check with your guide to get more details. Hard to tell how long the double deal will last. There may be some truth to the fact that SSR is selling fast and that the developer points will soon be exhausted; or it may be that the double deal will continue for several months and that SSR has zillions of developer points available.

If you are going to WDW in December and will book that trip using DVC points you may have a hard time getting a reservation if you wait too much longer to buy in. We are very new to DVC so others may have a different opinion of the potential availability issues.

We're just starting to look at DVC and I'm wondering how sweet a deal these developer points are, or is there always some kind of equal/similar deal going on? We just got off a cruise, so we're not eager to use 320 points in the next 7 months (though maybe I'll feel differently 2 months from now )

If I miss this incentive, should I feel comfortable that something of equal value will be available down the line -- or is this really something special?
