Is there any word on how long the double developer points will be available at AVK? I'm going to WDW next month and plan to purchase while there, or soon after I get back.. Does anyone know how long this incentive will last?

I just spoke with Michael from MS ,because the DW and I are going to buy into AKV, and right now they are offering TRIPLE developer points:banana: . I asked for how long and he said he wasn't sure.

Just a warning - developer points can't be banked or transferred, must be used at AKV, and have to be used within 7 months. Now that the 7 month window is open to all DVC owners and AKV still has extremely limited units, be careful - you could easily end up with developer points and no availibility.

Does anyone know if it is possible to exchange the points on an existing reservation, to utilize developer points instead? In other words, it you had reservations made using other points, can you then change them to use the developer points, and return your original points to your account? Just a thought.

I used my developer points at OKW.

Ooba, you could replace your points from an existing reservation only if there was no one on the waitlist for that same time frame. If there was, the cancelled res would go to the waitlist fulfillment first.

Bummer.

Triple points really?

There may be some confusion about developer points vs. incentive points. When we bought AKV, we got all of our 07 points plus 08 points. These are regular points, although the 07 points are a "bonus" since our UY is past and we've already got all of our 07 reservations made. These points are regular points, can be banked or transferred, and can be used anywhere.

Developer points must be used within 7 months, and can only be used at AKV. They do not show up on dvcmember.com, and reservations are made by managers. You get a different confirmation letter when you use developer points, and there is no trip insurance for ressies made with developer points.

So, in a sense, we got "triple" points for the first year - but only sort of, because the developer points were very tricky to use - especially since the units don't offically open until November, have very limited availibility, and 7 months ends in January. We rushed to get our contract processed before the 7 month window opened to everyone. We were able to make a reservation for late July before the 7 month window opened to all DVCers - but I think there are only 14 units open at that time.

Now that the 7 month window is open, I'd take the price per point discount over the developer points as my incentive - unless they've relaxed all the restrictions on the points.

This whole developer points dilema is probably more easily answered simply by knowing if a return trip within 7 months is realistic, or would it be a forced trip just to use the points. The discount may be the better option if your finances are a bit tight, infact you may be able to buy more points with the discount rather than jump at developer points for a one time forced trip!

I used my developer points at BCV. I bought AKL the first day they were available. MS changed my ressie from a studio to a one bedroom. I still had extra points, so they switched my borrowed SSR points for the developer points and let me put the SSR points back into the correct use year. I was told that the only way you can ever put points back or bank late is if you buy more points.

True, but the fact that the 7-month window now includes the insanely popular with DVCer times of December, first of January, and November - it's more realistic to say that if you can't make an extra trip in August or September, the developer points may be very difficult to use at this late date.

I think that once the 7 month AKV window opened, the developer points became pretty useless. Owners need a little bit of a home-priority advantage to secure reservations since the open number of units is so small right now.

The developer points can be used at all the DVC resorts and Disney collection as far as we were told. I did not ask about Concierge Collection. We used some of ours to book DL and then changed out a reservation at SSR that we already had in place so that we could then bank those points.

We bought at SSR and got the double developer points (not really triple since the 2006 points would have been included anyway). I never heard anything about the developer points only being usable at AKV but then again we did not purchase AKV. Was it different rules based on where you purchased the points?

We have been thinking about adding on some AKV points but would not take the developer points if they were only usable at AKV. We already have a ressie at AKV that we booked with 2005 banked points from a resale. Have to use those or loose them so we would not want to rebook this ressie with AKV developer points.

Confusing.....

I just bought AKV this past week. As stated by Global Mom the developer points are double not triple. EX: 160 points would give you 320 developer points and 160 in your 07 use year for a total of 480 points. The 320 points must be used within 7 months of your contract date and can be used at any DVC resort including thd Disney collection, trades and concierge. They are utilized exactly the same as regular points except they cannot be banked or transferred. They also can be insured just the same as other points as when you insure them you dont get the points back you get a monatary value of $5.00 per point. I used my points for a cruise in Sept. that I already paid 3500.00 for and tranferred the cruise money for my down payment. The points were 386 so this worked out very well. I have also insured the points with no problems. I hope this helps others with the confusion and in making a good decision. It was a great deal for us.

I am wondering if the developer point incentive works differently with initial purchases. With add-ons purchased before the price increase, the points can not be insured, I was told they had to be used at AKV, and they do not show up in the point/contract detail. My confirmation letter for my developer point reservation is totally different than my other vacation point ressie letters.

If you are making an initial AKV purchase and not an add-on, I have no idea what the incentive offer is like or how it compares to the SSR incentive. It makes sense that they would make the points more flexible with a first time contract since you can't use your AKV points right away. :goodvibes

Our developer points were for a 110 point add-on as we are already members. We got the double points plus our 2006 points (we are still in our 2006 year) and then our 2007 points come on Dec. 1st.

We have had no problem using them for reservations but it is accurate that they dont show up on the DVC member website, MS has to do manual adjustments.

Maybe some of the guides have conflicting information as to how these deveopler points can be used. Thus far our transactions have been very smooth.

Now if I can just convince DH to buy a 100 point AKV add-on.... :-)

That's a great incentive for the SSR add-on! Good for you getting such a sweet deal! :thumbsup2

We used our developer points to change an upcoming, July SSR trip to one of the initial 14 units at AKV in July, and then banked the SSR points. :thumbsup2 The text on our confirmation letter reads "If you cancel this reservation you can do so 31 days or more prior to the arrival date without penalty. If you check out early or no show for your reservation, all developer points are forfeited. Travel insurance through TRVELGUARD International is not available for reservations with developer points. Normal cancellation policies apply to reservations made with non-developer points."

I think I read that new owners can't use their AKV points for any reservation before AKV officially opens in the fall? Perhaps the developer points are being offered to new owners to allow for earlier vacationing at other resorts? :confused3
