So, we are fast approaching our 1st DVC vacation!! We have been to WDW so many times, that we decided this trip should be about our resort (SSR) and enjoying everything else about WDW. Now, we will still do 1 day at MK..had too =) But as a DVC member..what are the secret must do's?? And how does pool hopping work??

No pool hopping to BC (that means pools at YC/BC/BCV ) or AK; you'd have to be staying at BCV or AKV to use pools there ( word is that when BLT opens pool hopping will not be allowed there either ). When you check-in you will receive the current perks booklet and it will tell you if there are any black-outs on pool hopping at any of the other DVC resorts.

Don't miss seeing Electric Water Pageant from one of the resorts on 7 Seas Lagoon or Bay Lake
( we like to see it from beach at Polynesian and then Wishes usually follows shortly afterward ), it's nice to stroll from Polynesian to GF and back in evening too; BW evening entertainment ( may be magician, juggler, etc. ) & riding surrey bicycle around lake, seeing fireworks from Illuminations over ESPN Club and Fantasmic over Jellyrolls (high fireworks will be visible)

SSR is a great resort with lots to do too :goodvibes Have a great time !

Your children may enjoy the activities offered at the Community Hall at SSR. If it's not too hot, you may enjoy bike riding around that resort, or go over to the VWL and rent bikes to go from there to FW. Renting the little boats has always been a fun thing to do for our family.

Be sure to check the activities on the sheet you get in check in. You may want to check out the movies at your pool in the evening, but they also offer movies at the Contemporary, the BC lake area, and the Chip and Dale sing along nightly campfire at FW. I imagine that you can find out the other movies offered from the concierge desk at SSR.

Have a great time!

Since you'll be at SSR - be sure to walk to Downtown Disney - depending on where you are (SSR is huge) it is only a 10 minute stroll. I stayed for a week at VWL and didn't go to the parks at all but I did do some things that made up for it. I planned dinner at the California Grill at the Contemporary around the time for Wishes and watched from there and went to the Boardwalk to one evening to stroll and watch Illuminations. We also did things that we just never seem to have time to do when visiting parks. We rented a boat out on Bay Lake, rented bikes and shopped at DD more. We also made more dinner reservations at hotels (Boma, Hoop De Doo, Ohana, Kona) and always got there early to explore. Have a great time.

about the pool hopping..do u bring towels or do they have them for u?? I have done the FW campfire before & really think I will do this again =) I have been to DTD a million times and never seen the walk way to SSR? Does the boat take u there too, like it does to PO? I am sure we can go to AKV even though no pool hopping? Since that is where we own, I really want to see the new place!! Also..would u say driving is better for jumping resorts?

Yes - you can take the boat or stroll. The walk is along the lake out to the area where the buses drop off guests from the other resorts to DTD. Ask someone that looks nice (easy to find at Disney) and I'm sure they can point you in the right direction. I think you have to go behind Carousel.

As far as pool hopping, there are towels at the pools except for the value resorts. We pool hopped only once, to POR with our very young DGC. We had breakfast at Boatwrights and stayed to enjoy the pool. Now Boatwrights doesn't serve breakfast, I'm glad we did it when we did. POR is a lovely resort, and the DGC loved the playground and seeing the Old Fishing Hole!

We stayed at Congress Park section of SSR and from there it was relatively easy to find the path to DTD.

We've often taken our car over to AKL/V to just view the animals and walk around, and we enjoying eating at Mara, so we usually did that as well. You should be fine taking your car to visit Kidani. You just have to show a picture ID to the guard at the gate.

Be sure and try Turf Club. It's excellent! One of my favorite restaurants in WDW, though a little on the expensive side.

We also enjoy...
* Taking the monorail, and visiting GF to listen to the orchestra.
* Renting boats
* Mini-golf
* Spending lazy days at the pool
* If you enjoy working out, you'll LOVE SSR's workout facility.
* Walking to OKW in the mornings and eating breakfast at Olivia's.
* Visits to both BW and DTD.

Ahhhh...I could spend a week at WDW and never visit a park. :cloud9: Don't get me wrong, I like the parks, but it's just a totally different vacation.

Have fun planning! :thumbsup2
