Not a current owner but considering, so I had a detail question on points across different contracts. Let's say I had contracts for 2 different resorts under the same UY/member#. Now let's say I want to stay at resort A, but need pts from resort B contract to make that happen. Does it work as a pool of points when under the same UY/member #, or are they separate entities, therefore counting as the single point transfer you are permitted per UY?

Also same question for 2 contracts at the same resort.

Thank you!

AS I understand it, you can have multiple contracts with the same use year and all points are held under one account.

But they all must be same use year. Different use year is a different membership for each one, but you could then transfer points between accounts.

But same use year, one account (assuming same names on both contracts etc)

The points will only be able to combined for 7 months (or less) out reservations btw, because they are different resorts.

You also wont be able to swap points for a reservation made during the home resort window with the others points. Meaning if you make a reservation at 11 months, all the points for the dates reserved at 11 months would have to be from that resorts contract. This stops people from having a pool of more expensive points used to book, and then trading in cheaper resort points to actually use. You could add on more days at 7 months, or fully cancel and rebook.

If you wanted to stay at Resort A, but did not have enough points to make the full stay, you could borrow (currently up to 50%) of next year's points to make the reservation. You could also make a separate reservation at Resort B at 11 months out to have a split stay. But you can never combine points from two different resorts to book a stay at a single resort at 11 months out. Home resort stays home resort. At seven months out you could change the reservation at Resort B to Resort A if there is still vacancy in the booking category you booked for the other reservation.

If they are different UYs, you transfer from one to the other. Points maintain the resort and UY. You cannot borrow transferred points, but you can bank them. You cannot transfer banked or borrowed points. You are limited to one transfer in or out per UY. Some people have been told they could do another transfer between their own resorts, but I have always been told that I have used my once per UY transfer in that single transfer from one to the other.

If they are the same UY, you don't transfer. At seven months out you can just use the points for any resort, in any combination.

You could book a split-stay at both resorts, then revise the reservation to only one resort at 7 months depending on availability - that's not what most people do though. Most people will book resort A, borrowing points from the next year, then book resort B the next year, using banked points from the year previous that they didn't use, repeat. That way you can always book at 11 months out, not scramble for what's left at 7 month out.

Thank you all for the great info! These replies have very thoroughly answered my question, and given me a few items I hadn't thought of yet. I've been learning the ins and outs of DVC in drips and drabs for awhile now, thanks in large part to the Dis Unplugged (which is what piqued my interest in the first place), and this board. You all are a great resource of information and super helpful. Thank you all very much!
