one of the biggest opponents of destination casinos in florida is walt Disney world ! I don't understand Disney's reasons to block anything that could drive more tourist to the area anybody got any ideas why?
I know that if there was a casino very close to WDW, I would probably visit.
That would definitely mean that I would be taking one of my days away from Disney. Maybe other people would take days away from Disney, too.
The main ones pushing for the casinos are the people in South Florida aka Miami aka no where near WDW...if the large casinos resorts get built that means they will have large convention centers that cater to large conventions...having a convention at a hotel means that adults will spend money gambling and probably won't bring the family along for a mini vacation...Disney doesn't want people to move their conventions from Disney/Orlando (whether it be onsite or off) because they will lose money
In simple terms:
Resort Casino in Miami = large convention space = relocation of conventions from Orlando area to Miami area = loss of $$$ for Disney from both the convention itself AND the family members that tag along and for a vacation
there is...about an hour away...Hard Rock Seminole just outside of Tampa...6th largest casino in the world
or
there is the Victory Casino Cruise out of Port Canaveral twice a day for about 6 hours at a time
I know Victory even offers to shuttle people to/from Disney (well, the outlets across the street from DTD) and I think Hard Rock does something similar
Ding ding. Disney wants you to come to Disney, and only Disney. Hence why there's always been opposition towards rail and other intermodal transportation. Plus, it allows them to have PR about how they're leading the fight to keep MCO a Family Destination. It's a win-win.
