Sorry if this is a silly question, we have never had a dining plan before but we are considering trying it on our upcoming Disney trip --Does the dessert have to be ordered at the same time with the lunch or dinner for the quick service dining plan? Some of the places we would like to grab lunch or dinner have desserts my family would not enjoy, just wondering if the dessert could be from another place.

Thanks!
Lori

Nope, you have to get dessert at the same counter service restaurant where you are eating your meal. But with QSDP, you get 2 snacks each per night so can get some yummy extras like strawberry shortcake at Sunshine Seasons or pastries from the French bakery in Epcot. Or, even better, cupcakes from Starring Rolls. :worship:

the only time you can get your dessert later (and it still has to be at the same quick service place) is if you're getting ice cream for dessert. They will let you come back, usually within an hour, to the same place to get your dessert. This is so you can eat your burger (or whatever) without having your ice cream sitting on your tray melting. This is great at your resort counter service...get your entree & drink, tell them you want ice cream sundae later & keep your receipt. They will tell you how soon you must return for the ice cream. I've read as little as 30 min. to as much as 90 min. so it varies from one resort to another.

Thanks for the quick replies, I thought that might be the case. Great idea about the ice cream!!! Are there tips like that somewhere in one place on this board or are they mixed in throughout all of the posts? Good idea about the cupcakes, too. We tried one on our last visit and now we are hooked --they are sooo good!

Thanks again!
Sincerely,
Lori

I have found that a lot of CS places will let you get a bottle of water as your dessert. :thumbsup2 Wolfgang Puck Express even included a bowl of soup as our dessert.

Thanks for the tip! If we will be too full for dessert or if they offer things that don't look appealing water would be a great alternative --Our trip is this summer so the more water the better! :thumbsup2

Another note on dessert... I posted about this last night but it was moved. We were on the DDP last week, not sure if quick service from that plan varies from what you are getting with the qsdp... BUT the brochure says that you get an entree, beverage and dessert. It does not say anything different for kids 3-9. Be warned, they would NOT give my daughter dessert at her quick service meals! They said that kids 3-9 get 2 sides instead. The sides were carrots, grapes or applesauce. A soft drink or cookie could be subbed. However, my DD has an egg allergy so couldn't have the cookie. They would not sub another dessert for the cookie. I was appalled that they clearly advertise this one way and then WOULD NOT budge on this. At the Contemporary quick service the lady told me her dessert would have to be one of her sides.... at the Wilderness Lodge and in MK they said NOPE can't do it... grapes, carrots, applesauce. If you have kids you would want to know this going in. I had to use snack credits or pay OOP for her dessert at our qs meals because I wasn't going to make her watch us eat dessert which was included in our meals, but not let her have any... and we couldn't SHARE ours because of her egg allergy. A couple times I did just get A Mickey Bar as my dessert and gave it to her and I went without dessert. JUSY FYI!! Honestly, they gave me THEIR brochure upon checkin and I kept looking at it again and again, and it said NOTHING in there about this! Clearly stated that on a quick service lunch or dinner you get a beverage, entree and dessert- said nothing different for kids.

A note about getting ice cream later: You have to ORDER the ice cream when you're paying for your meal. The CM ringing in your order will stamp your receipt indicating that you have not yet received the ice cream. When you go to get the ice cream later, you show a CM at a cash register the receipt along with the ice cream and the receipt will them be marked as having gotten the ice cream. You have to pick up the ice cream generally within 90 minutes of your initial order, though I don't recall a CM ever actually checking the time.

Re: desserts with kids quick service meals. Kids meals do include a dessert but just not an adult dessert. The dessert is one of the side options such as jello, pudding, cookies, grapes or apple sauce. It's kind of like how the brochure says that kids meals at TS locations include an appetizer; this is a kids' meal appetizer that really is one of the side options that comes with the kids meals. These are the desserts that are on the kids menu. The brochure does state that kids must order from the kids menu where available. The regular adult sized desserts are not on the kids menu.
