Dessert Inn and Suites

Thanks! :woohoo: I booked the DISuites for 79 a night for their 2 queens and a sofa pullout!:cool1: I'll be glad to use a room that will fit us all and feed us a little breakfast AND a closer walk!
I will miss my dear Hojo this year!! ; ( But I wont miss the whining from my girls on the walk home!

I will never stay at the Dessert Inn again. It was dirty and noisy. We had to change rooms because our floor was wet and the new room was dirty too. I would rate HoJos a 9 and Dessert Inn a 2. I would MUCH rater walk to HoJos than stay at the Dessert Inn again.

We always stay at the DI&S and have yet to have a dirty room (and we go quite often). Their rates are always low, and the people that work there are great. There are always maintenance people walking around emptying trash cans and ashtrays or just generally cleaning something.

We also enjoy watching the fire works from their observation deck on top of the hotel at night.

Sounds like you got a parlor room ( I believe that's what it's called) californiamom. Those are nice because you can close the door between the pull out sofa area and the other area, so you and hubby can have t.v time after the little ones go to bed (or vice versa, depending on their ages ) There are TV's in each of the two sections, so it's not like you have to be all watching the same thing. You also have a fridge and microwave in the room. Their breakfast is basic toast/fruit/cereal/danishes type of thing, but, we usually either bring bagels and use their toaster (they don't mind) or just grab a danish to get us by until we're hungry later after our "morning routine".

Oh, they have free wifi too. Just call the front desk for the password as I'm not sure how often it changes and don't want to give you the wrong one. If you don't have a laptop and need to check something, there is a computer in the lobby you are welcome to use. It has a printer, so you are able to print out boarding passes or other things if needed too.

Hope that helps!

Hope you have a great trip!

The way I look at it there are always mixed reviews for every hotel you go to. :thumbsup2 I have heard good things about DI&S and I have no problem advocating for myself if my hotel room isn't clean. ;)
I just need somewhere to sleep and the free breakfast is a huge plus! It saves me time if nothing else. The walking is a big deal for us with the four kids at the end of a long day. I could barely get one of my girls to walk the rest of the way home she gave up at the end of the crosswalk at Captin Rons!! :confused3 Thanks for all of the info and tips! : )
I figure I'll give it a try if it really is that horrible I can walk down to the Hojo!!! :rotfl2:

It's been a couple years since we stayed at the Desert Inn and Suites - but we have always found it to be clean. We liked HOJOs too (building 2) but for space - prefer the Desert Inn. We like the quick breakfast you don't get at HOJOs.

We have also had good experiences at The Grand Californian (given), Camelot Inn (recently and when it was the Park Inn International), Best Western Park Inn and the Tropicana. Our least favorite was the Tropicana - but that was probably because we got a room with a shower and no tub.

Desert Inn was our old stand by before we stayed at HOJO. When DI&S is cheaper or the same rate, we stay there. If I get a better deal at HOJO then we stay there.

We've never had an issue at DI&S. Always clean, front desk is helpful, the rooms are decent sized, and that shorter walk is a relief at the end of the day. The parking is a bit tight but we tend to leave the car parked the whole time we're there anyway so it's no big deal for us.

Honestly, we've never used the pool at either hotel and never had the breakfast at DI&S. When we drive, we bring our own and the last time we stayed there we flew and we up and out before breakfast even started. (POTC3 premiere)

We were just at HOJO (building 2) a couple of weeks ago and have reservations at DI&S for October, just in case. lol We really want to go back for Halloween but there's a chance it may not happen.

We've stayed at Desert Inn several times and never had any problems. We're trying HoJo this time just for a change.

We just stayed there, 03/31-04/03, and really liked it. We stayed at a regular 2 queen bedded room. The room was a good size and it had micro and fridge. The location can't be beat. It was the best thing of all. We were in the parks in about a 5 min walk, with dd5 in a stroller. We were able to take naps in the afternoon in a breeze. I can't speak about breakfast because we were in the parks at 6:30 am on one day and at 7:20 am the other 2 days, and breakfast started at 7:30 am. But we bought breakfast items at Wal Mart and used the fridge. We would definitely stay there again.

Stayed there 3/21-25...($109/night for Parlor Suite A) It's close. It's very basic. It's cheap. I've also stayed at Hojo's. No question Hojo's has the nicer accomodations.

For us, the proximity combined with the amount of time we actually spend in the room will take us back to DI&S again...

We've stayed at the Hojos twice but the room is bigger at DI&S and the small breakfast is what really sold me. We got the room for $79 you can't really beat that I think the Erate is $99 for the kids suite at Hojo so it's still cheaper for what I need. Thanks for all of the input I appreciate it!:goodvibes

If staying in the parlor suite I'd recommend not going when it's hot the ac is in the bedroom and there is a little hole in the wall between the rooms to cool the "livingroom".

It was January when we went and had to leave our door wide open for hours because it was soooooooooooo hot in the room! We found out our ac was not working and they had to swap out the whole unit. When it did work it was still warm in our room. The pool smells of chlorine...I wasn't sure I wanted my kids to swim in there because it was indoors and seemed like there was no ventillation.

Parking was a little bit difficult but manageable. We didn't leave too often so it wasn't so much of an issue.

I am not picky with hotels..but I think I've made up my mind that this would be a last resort and must be a great deal. I would bring flip flops or house slippers because the floor felt a little bit damp and grimey...I also wear flip flops in the shower. We got the parlor suite a for $79 and for the location and free continental breakfast it's a great deal. Also no matter what type of room you are allowed only one vehicle.

On the plus side the front desk was helpful, you can't beat the location and my sister who had the 2 br family suite love her room. It was very spacious and cooler in their room.
