Having a dessert contest at 4th of July Block Party. Any and all ideas welcome🇺🇸

Peruse the Better Homes and Gardens website or old magazines. Same for Southern Cooking, Downeaster, etc. Always holiday dessert recipes there.

I think you are going to see lots of flag cakes. What if you put a twist on it and did a flag trifle instead? Pound cake chunks, vanilla filling (I'd make creme patisserie but you could use pudding), strawberries and blueberries, whipped cream on top.

OR... blueberry/cherry/raspberry/blackberry pie. Pick a red and a blue and go with it!

I gain a pound or two just looking at the Southern Cooking website, but they have some great things on there for sure.

I don't have a recipe, but I'd do a 3 layer cake and go all out decorating...

For the layers, I'd do red velvet, blue velvet, and vanilla in the middle (red, white, and blue:))...
I'd do a cream cheese frosting (but I'd split it by thirds and color red, white, and blue and ombre effect the cake or pipe it to a flag)...and I'd do a strawberry filling and maybe a blue white chocolate mousse/ganache to go along with the cream cheese frosting in the middle...

PS - I'd taste this to make sure it wouldn't be too sweet (keep the frosting tangy and the strawberry filling tart), but if you want to put in the work, it could beat all the single layer flag cakes with strawberries and blueberries on top!

Thank you for the shout out!!!!

For 4th of July I am going to attempt this flag cake!!! Wish me luck.

Not going to attempt the outside decorating as my skills are not at that level but will try to make the actual Flag cake.

:lovestruc Nice! You must come back and show us the results. You and I must be the exact opposite - I'm great with decorating but I only ever make plain cakes under the icing. If you're not confident with a piping bag, frost it white and take some of those blue and red M&M's you had and cover the top in circular, alternating rows. It will look amazing! :goodvibes

ETA: Squee!! :hyper: I watched the video and the next one up is a Canadian Flag cake. Please, pretty please @mmouse37 - make that one for us on July 1!!

Love this idea!! :thumbsup2

Marshmallow Pops - super easy and fun!

I usually do these with chocolate and nuts, but they would look great with white "chocolate" and read and blue sprinkles.

Get some long lollipop sticks at Michael's / Hobby Lobby / whatever your local craft sore is, and string 3 large marshmallows on each. Melt the chocolate and dip them, then roll or dust in sprinkles and let set.

The candy melts can also be found at the craft store (or in bulk at some grocery stores). - The melting directions should be on the bag, but with these, I use a tall microwave-safe mug or Pyrex measuring cup instead of a bowl. It makes it easier to dip for the shape.

And something nice to have that handles every allergy in the book and is kid friendly, but a bit more of a pain than jello shots...(since you have to keep these really cold).

Red, white, and blue vegan popsicles (top 8 allergy free and artificial dye/flavor free) https://detoxinista.com/4th-july-popsicle-recipe/

You don't have to follow that recipe, and I'd probably go raw honey over maple syrup (or even just a simple syrup with sugar/water if you're worried about those under 1 going for these), and I'd skip the fancy blueberry add, but might add lemon zest to it to wake it up on the bottom...it's even almost keto (and thus, probably semi diabetic-friendly), since it's 11 carbs per serving as made, with sufficient fats to go with the carbs:)...

PS - If you made anything like these, I'd vote for you, especially if it was 95 degrees out:)!

What about homemade ice cream sandwiches. I would buy the ice cream and make the cookies—chocolate chip is popular but you could do M&M cookies using red, white and blue M&M’s. I would then roll the edge in red, white and blue sprinkles/jimmies. Something different although might be tough to keep frozen if you are outdoors.

I did these last year......

I had store bought ice cream sandwiches that I cut in half and then rolled in red, white, blue sprinkles!

And dipped pretzel rods and made chocolate bark with crushed pretzels and left over white chocolate.
