Ok im having my reception at the Yacht Club from 5:30-8:30 followed by a dessert party at Epcot. What should i do about the desserts? I think that having a dessert with the meal plus the dessert party may be too much? And then there is the wedding cake also, Do people use this as their dessert or do Disney put it into boxes to give to your guests? Im not sure what i should do?

wow yeh that sounds like sweets overload for the guests.
if everyone's going to the dessert party, i would omit the desserts off dinner menu, replace it with maybe coffees and tea?

oh if you can discretly bring some containers for the dessert party...use it to bring home left overs...people can only eat so much sweets one night...and I think they serve a lot!

Yes, most people use the cake as dessert. Because cake is very popular people choose to not eat it, and since most brides pay more for the cake, they omit the desserts. But you also have to think there's bound to be at least one dieter, one diabetic and people who plain out don't eat dessert. I would skip dessert at the reception and enjoy it at epcot. Another tragedy would be you spending 20+ a people on dessert at the party, and no one eating it.

I agree, forego the dessert and have the cake. The cake is a staple of a wedding and everyone, once they see how beautiful it is, will want to eat it. Plus, cutting out the desset may cut some of the cost off. I've heard stories of people having dessert and having to bring layers of their wedding cake back to their rooms. With destination weddings it's not like the guests can bring home extra cake and store it in the fridge.

We had a similar time frame and only served cake at our reception, and then desserts at Illuminations. We figured if we served desserts at the reception and Illuminations, no one would eat anything at the dessert party.

We are also having dinner and then Illuminations. We are not going to serve dessert at dinner. I'm still not sure if I am going to do cake after the ceremony and bring it to the dinner though.

Is there any way that you could cut out the dessert at the end of the meal and just have cake? We were thinking of having a dessert party after our reception, but that is quite a lot of dessert, so we decided against it and will be having it the night before for sort of a rehearsal celebration! Like others have said, guests may fill up on cake and the dessert at the reception and then not eat much at the dessert party...which would be a waste of money in my opinion. However, good luck deciding!

Jessica:)

Thanks for your help everyone. I think i am going to cut out the desserts at the end of the meal and just serve the cake, and then have the desserts at the Illuminations party.

We had the dessert party without desserts. We had had an open bar instead of another dessert.

CJB,
I was wondering how you had just an open bar? This sounds like something I would like to do but isn't there a food minimum? I think just a bar with like a signature drink sounds good!

I wish that I had taken off the desserts. We had 3 types of dessert and no one ate any at all.

The wedding cake is just the nicest, spongiest cake I ever had.

We served the cake at the ceremony and then the remainder by the pool the next day.
