DH and I are visiting Aug 12-21. This is our first vacation since the birth of our DS 11mo, who will be staying at home with his grandparents. I want it to be a great trip, but I am having a hard time deciding between hotels.

I have been off on maternity leave, so we don't have a great deal of money. Do I spend the extra money on the hotel and less on food? I am a pool hound and we don't like going to parks everyday, so we do spend some time at the hotel. Does anyone know if the quiet pools at POP have a deep end? I don't really need a slide, but I do need a deep end.

I have heard that the food court at POP is resonable and varied, and Boatworks is supposed to be closed while we are there.

Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated!

I loved POFQ but decided to try POR this trip. I like the peacfull settings. I think POP with be loaded with more kids and more hectic. POR also has quiet pools.

Where did you hear Boatworks is closing ? I hope it reopens by Aug 27.

the pools at Pop don't have a deep end. too many littles ones.

I think the depth is deeper in the middle 3' might be 4'.

if you don't have extra money - I would go with Pop. You can definitely good swimming at Pop - not a problem.

remember that Pop does not have a hot tub - POR does.

If you plan on spending lots of time at the resort I think I would choose POR. It is more relaxing. I think you would like the boat to DDT also. There are no quiet pools at Pop just 3 themed pools.

I really love Pop and you can certainly have a great trip there.

I too would like to know where you read that Boatwrights would be closed. I have an ADR there for August 20th. The foodcourt was remodeled earlier this year and is fully open now.

While I like both resorts, I noticed that I reallly felt more like I was on vacation when I was walking around POR's gorgeous grounds. I can see how it would be very romantic to stay there.

Pop is fun and I would go back any time, but the atmosphere is not what I would call relaxing. What I missed at POP was the lush greenery, pretty atmosphere, and walking down the river, all of which POR has.

I am not a fan of POR's bus service, but no resort is perfect. If you would like to save money, go with POP. If you want a true resort experience for a little more (which I would do on a "no kids" trip), go with POR.

To me, POR's grounds are more beautiful than POLY. I smile just thinking about how pretty it was. I never even minded the long walks due to the scenery. We loved listening to the clickity-clack of the horses hooves from the carriage rides. Plus the boat to DTD. Don't forget about POFQ too! I've never stayed there, but it is smaller and quaint. It doesn't have a sit down restaurant though.

Have fun!

We stayed at both and loved both, for different reasons. POR is considerably more lush and attractive, and has more things for adults to do like surrey bike rentals, small boat rentals, fishing, the boat to DTD, a sit-down restaurant (it has reopened after being "refurbished" earlier this year), quiet pools, horse and carriage rides, a pretty riverwalk, and live entertainment. It will also be quieter at that time of year. POP is great for families and kids, and is probably a better "value". It may also have a better location (closer to most parks). If you could swing it, I would do POR this time, and then next time (when you bring the kid or kids) save some lodging $$$ and stay at POP.

Have a great time!
