My DS and DSS share a bedroom (by choice, we have 3 bedrooms but 2 are huge and one is smaller and they enjoy sharing the room... for now, at least!). They are at the age where they need their own space for homework. I am looking for a desk for their room. While their room IS big, I really don't want to put 2 desks in it, but I would like for them to each have their own study space/drawers. A while back I saw a really cool desk that had drawers and chairs on either side, but I can't remember where I saw it. I was wondering if anyone has seen anything like that, or has any ideas/suggestions on something would work for them.

TIA

We bought a butcher block top kitchen island for my DD's desk. It's extra wide and much longer than a traditional desk, it is sturdy and weighs a ton.. It has stainless shelving on one side and it was made to put a stool on the other side...she loves it cause she can really spread out. We found it at IKEA. So, don't forget to look beyond traditional desks.

Was it from Pottery Barn? They used to sell a 4 person desk I think.
Maybe you could just back up 2 desks to each other - think college library cubbies.

Thanks for the ideas... I'm not a big fan of Ikea... just not my style and while I LOVE the Pottery Barn desks (that 4 person desk is sooooo cool) they are just too pricey for me at this time. After talking to DH about it, we have decided to turn the jelly cabinet in my kitchen into a "school supply center" and keep having the boys do their homework at the kitchen table. In reality, they both need a little help and they get distracted pretty easily so it probably isn't the right time to have them doing homework in their room without some supervision. Typically they are doing their homework while I prepare dinner, so it works out to keep them in the kitchen at the table at least for now. I just thought it would be a good Christmas gift... oh well!

If you're going for function over form, when we first got married, DH had a desk his dad had put together for him. It had a 2-shelf bookcase on one side, a 2-drawer filing cabinet on the other, and they used a wood door for the top. It was long and DH and I could sit at it at the same time.

Maybe a similar solution might work for you?
