Designing a crafting area

My dh is finishing an area of the basement and it looks like I'll have a small crafting area (about 4' X 8'). :cool1: I am thinking about making an L shaped work table that is higher than normal. Often when I scrap or make cards, my back aches. Do any of you have that problem? Do you think a higher table would help with that problem? I'd also like your opinion on chairs. I have either used a folding chair or a chair from my dining room. Do you think one chair is any better than the other?

Thanks for your opinions

I have a bar height table. I tend to find myself standing a lot when scrapping and I didn't want to have to bend over. I stand so I can reach all my stuff (on shelves above the table) without have to stand up and then sit down a hundred times. I have an adjustable stool when I do feel like sitting. (The table height is adjustable as well if one day I decided standing is no longer working for me.) I got the table and stool from Ikea for like $200, plus some awesome rolling organizing carts for $40 each. One day I will upload a pic of my scraproom. :thumbsup2

I'm working on re-organizing my scrapbooking space right now so I don't dare post a photo of the mess! LOL.

I have a big table I work on though and a desk where my computer sits if it's upstairs (I have a laptop that is sometimes downstairs....scrap room is upstairs).

My back hurts a ton when I do crafts on the floor downstairs. When I'm sitting though it usually doesn't hurt. I have a cushiony desk chair that swivels that's pretty comfy.

I highly recommend an adjustable desk or drafters chair, depending on the height you choose for your work table. The chair can make a huge difference -

Although I've seen quite a few people mention IKEA, I can't say that I've ever seen anything by that name in a store. Where do you find their products?

Also, how does the table adjust?

IKEA is a store. It sells Scandinavian style furniture. It's so much fun to go to the store, you need to look it up and see where there is one near you.

I use an adjustable desk chair too. No back probs, and I'm on a office mat for easy wheeling...

IKEA is a store as stated. Google it (not sure if I can post links)

As for the table, the legs are sort of like screws. Twist them right, they get longer- twist them left, they get shorter.
It is the big Galant table with the "A" legs on the Ikea website if you want to see what I mean.

Thanks for all of the information. Unfortunately, there is not an IKEA store near St. Louis.

What I'll probably do is get or make a table and then use an adjustable chair.

Thats unfortunate, but they do ship (not sure of the cost) if you like something on their website.

I'm a very lucky scrapbooker in that I have a whole scrapbooking room:goodvibes

I use 2 3x6 folding tables (I REALLY like to spread out!!) but I get a sore back too. What I've found works for me is I "shrunk" the chair!!

I got a cheepie wooden bar stool at wal-mart for like $10 and chopped the legs off to the bottom rung:lmao:

Works like a charm!!! I fit the table perfectly!
