Truth be told, I did think Kiefer was showing his age in the 9th season and I wondered if he could pull off a 10th. But I was sure willing to give it a try!

I read or saw him in some interview where he said he was getting too old for such an action packed show. ha! He said it was harder for him to do them and recover from them. (something like that). Although, I'd love another reboot with Jack Bauer. I'm hoping he'll make a cameo or something in the new series.

They said initially he flat out said no appearance in the new series. But he has apparently made some comments recently leaving room for that possibility. I think he has come on board as an executive producer for the new show.

I thought the same thing. I can only come up with no one thought it would ever happen.

Yeah, it usually doesn't matter who's left behind. Don't forget, they weren't going to tell him that they wanted him out. Also, there could be a rotation, and it could have been HUD's year. And let's face it, it certainly adds to the drama that he was going to be let go.

I think the fact that he wasn't an ambitious presidential candidate is precisely why I like him so much!

We are huge House fans. Right now, when watching Designated Survivor, we are calling Penn's character "Kutner." Because we can't remember his character's name.

I think he's my favorite character on the show!

Why do you think Kimble was "Googling" him at the end of ep. 2??

Either to get to know him so she can work well with him, or to find his weaknesses so she can replace him. I really want to like her, but I'm just too suspicious for now.

I have often said that anyone who wants to be president, probably shouldn't be. I think that makes the character on this show someone you can really root for.

I am suspicious of the Senator, the General, the now Chief of Staff (he should have fired that guy unless he is doing a "keep your enemies close" sort of thing), and that other congressman who survived somehow. I am definitely curious to see where they go with all this.

I thought it was because the president (who wanted to replace him as HUD secretary) wanted to make sure he wasn't at the speech. Kinda awkward to have HUD there then fire him next day.

I've been DVRing and catching up. It's an improbable but fun show to watch. I don't know how long it'll stay that way but for now I'm hanging with it.

I'm pretty disappointed so far. Too predictable. Evil military, check. Muslim haters, check. It's just not clicking for me. I'm going to keep watching for a bit though. Maggie Q's storyline looks like it could have some unpredictable possibilities.

Glasses are generally considered a sign of weakness. They are a correction to a physical infirmity and the President wants to project a perfect image. This is why FDR hid his Polio. It may or may not be fair to judge someone's strength based on the need for glasses or any other physical issue that they can't help, but society as a whole does it, even in this day and age.

As an aside, Captain Kirk didn't want to put his glasses on in front of his arch-enemy Kahn either. He had to suck it up though.

It may or may not be fair to judge someone's strength based on the need for glasses or any other physical issue that they can't help, but society as a whole does it, even in this day and age.

Interesting. I do not see glasses in that way at all. In fact I think they often make a person look more intelligent, if anything.

I think in present-day America most people wouldn't, but a president deals with people from all over the world, so they probably err on the side of caution. And much as how you feel glasses indicate higher intelligence, there are a load of other stereotypes (or stigmas) that go with wearing glasses too. Someone like the president probably doesn't want to feed into any of that.

For the record I wear glasses.

I really really wanted to like this show and even look past some of the improbable things....but nothing is making sense. The ENTIRE congress (minus 2), the entire Supreme Court, and most executive level administrators are gone...and the president is calmly strolling in to run into his chief of staff and say hey what's going on this morning. There's only his senior advisor and chief of staff in a room talking about what's happening in Michigan, one speechwriter is watching the press seceretary melt down, no one is saying hey all the states have nominated their congressional replacements (cause that's what happens when a member dies, the governor immediately appoints a replacement until special election). It's how long? a week? after the attack and we still only have 2 legislators?

The WH is a madhouse of staff activity on a slow day and here there's like 5 people milling around and the military would be glued to his side. Plus the secret service is glued to POTUS anywhere outside the oval and then they are at the doors. This is the LAST REMAINING leader of the US and he's strolling off the elevator alone.

It just seems so sloppy and like they put zero thought at all into all the storytelling elements.
