Is anyone else watching Design Star on HGTV? If there is already a thread, let me know.

I watched.
Not sure if there is an "official" thread out there, I havent seen one.

I was embarrased for the tow ladies that did the master bedroom. What a hot mess! Did they finish any of the projects they tried to do? I could believe they cut the bed spreads and taped up the curtains!

Except for the ladies who did the bedroom with the three beds, I don't think any of them got that they were decorating THEIR HOUSE. I hope the two people who decorated the bedroom with the bunks have to sleep there and enjoy the option of relaxing on either the wooden bench or the wrong-sized chair. And when they all hang out in the living room, will they all pile onto the one big couch, or will some sit in those isolated uncomfortable looking chairs? They deserve an uncomfortable house if that's what they'd design for others.

Yeah, it seems like the two with the big bedroom must not have seen the show before...the contestants are under tremendous time pressure but the endproject always looks "done" - the judges don't look the other way at taped up curtains or cut up comforters.

I didn't like ONE of those rooms! I'm surprised Vern and Candice (who the heck ALLOWED G Gorder to even BREATHE their air?????? :scared: )didn't throw out all of their resumes and start over!!:lmao:

Most of the show I thought was a pilot for the Giada De Laurentiis twin who DESTROYED that bedroom! :scared1: She was through the entire show. After she left I figured they HAD to promote her early because she had a short shelf life! :lmao:

I'm STILL not over the fact that they had a TEN THOUSAND DOLLAR BUDGET and CUT comforters???:scared1::scared1::scared1: I've done better going to Wally World with a FIFTY dollar budget!!!

On several of the rooms the judges asked if they had spent all their money, or if they had a low budget. So far, I certainly wouldn't trust any of them with a cent of my money.

With that said, I think it's going to be hard on the contestants that they are in LA. In past seasons, they've been sort of in the sticks, without a lot of stores, so they could use "I couldn't find what I really wanted" as an excuse. In LA, you can probably purchase just about anything you can think of but you have to know where to look and have time to get there. There will be traffic to go just about anywhere so no quick trips to the store.

I wouldn't miss it. For some reason, the guy with all the tatoos is rubbing me the wrong way.

Totally Agree with the whole G. Gorder comment. Candance and Vern are in a league of their own, and G. Gorder can't even come close to their talent.

I don't think I've EVER seen anything she's done that I liked. Vern and Candice blow my mind on the regular! Maybe they wanted to balance the judge team because she's like the Design on a Dime version of that group...:scared:

Wow. We were all stunned that Amy went home instead of Tashica. I don't think Tashica has made a positive contribution to anything yet. I think she survived because she's the most photogenic of any of the designers.

Why do they have them do full kitchens in three days???!!! They are always a disaster. Even Candice said you have to do a cheat with the backsplash because there is never enough time for tile...so the nice "deserving family" has to live with floor tile on the backsplash because there wasn't enough time for tile.

I think in the future they should make the kitchen be a remodel and tell them that they aren't allowed to gut it.

And Jen - the "color expert" - I think being on the show has hurt whatever career she had because her colors have been terrible.

Those kitchens were both terrible - and bland! The colors in that one room *cringe*

As with any of these shows, I don't start picking up on names and personalities until they have narrowed it down more. It's hard for me to see who really has any talent when they are all working together on stuff. So far, no one has impressed me much.

Around here we revere Candace, despise Vern because he's sooooooo (yawn, zzzzzzzzzzz) boring and that other woman is just dumb.

I HATED the Morrocan kitchen - too weird and the kitchen that didn't get done was pretty bad too considering they had $10K plus applicance and flooring to work with. I think the backsplash was a great idea - the floor tile one. I like the woman who did it too. Wasn't she the last designer who was chosen by all the other designers?

The tile backsplash on the unfinished kitchen was bland...looked like clay pots...with the other finishes, I think a little sparkle would have been nice.

I do hope that they homeowners at least got the accessories that were puchased for the kitchen but not used.

So glad Jen went home...as the "color expert", each week her color choices were close to nauseating.

Dan's room was incredible - it looked like he'd been working on it for weeks. Now that's the type of designer we would all love to hire - someone with superior time management skills.

I agree. That red apple room was amazing.

Two more disappointing rooms. Love the Tashica elimination...I'd have loved to have seen her audition - there has to be some reason she was chosen to be on the show. I don't think I've ever seen a designer so disliked and disrespected by the other designers. There have been jerks who were disliked by their fellow designers who were respected for their skills. There have been folks who sort of paired up when no one else like them. But no one respected Tashica.

Did it seem like they had to do all their shopping at Sears? No wonder the Hampton's room was so predictable...Sears does not exactly have an edgy furniture department.

And it was insane that the designers had to spend part of their 20 hours carting things out of the homeowner's garages. They should have told the homeowners, "the designers have 20 hours to spend on your room. If you decide to have them spend 1/10th of their time cleaning out your garage, you will live with the consequences."

It was unfair of Vern to criticize them for not putting together the elyptical machine...that could have sucked up a huge amount of their time.

What a huge mistake the one team made in not getting a new garage door! And the other team came back the next morning to find their new garage door installed. Well worth whatever $$$ they spent! And why would they elevate part of the room? You're already in a garage, no need to make the ceilings even lower.

I think this'll get even better once they whittle it down to just a few designers.

ITA! Very much doubt Candace shops at Sears for her designs!!! I thought the idea of putting the elyptical in the corner with the bow was great!!! They only have 20 hours. My husband and I have spent 8 man hours assembling some of our excersize equipment.

I wonder if the other room had enough money to replace the door when all was said and done. They made their platform too high, perhaps spending too much on lumber - that was Dan's fault. I was suprised he got so much praise after the panning of the room. I was also suprised that their criticism of Nathan was so unfair. Clive said he had not been able to 'execute' his ideas. Not true at all. The dining room was fabulous and I felt that was mostly due to Nathan. His white room was also really cool with the milk pour texture on the walls and the writing on the sofa as well as the orange chandelier. Sometimes these group project suck because they are set up to suck. Nathan did lots of the shopping and just painted quickly because they had so little time due to their leader-Dan's-plan for all the construction which did not work. Glad he's still there-Nathan. I think he has great potential.

Candace has her own line of fabrics. The colors and textures are to die for. Just beautiful! In my house Candace is a designing goddess. My fantasy is to win the lottery and have Candace design my entire house. I just love everything she does!

Lonni has yet to impress me but I still like her. I predict Dan to win but Tori will give him a lot of competition.

I couldn't believe they didn't replace that garage door either - especially *that* garage door that was obviously in bad shape (didn't the home owners say they couldn't fully close or lock it??? uh, hello, they're in LA - they may want to protect their new TV!).

I too would love to see Tashica's audition. I agree - there had to be something in it that got her on the show above all those other people who applied. It just didn't translate well in the competition, I guess, as the others really jumped on her. I think her biggest issue was that she didn't have the confidence to stand up and speak loudly for herself in a group of dominating personalities - a trait she'd need to win. I felt bad for her (although she definitely screwed up some things and wasn't skilled at the execution).

I'm guessing the show had planned on eliminating her the way they did long before that elimination segment. I'm guessing they figured going in they'd watch the tape one last time to see if there was any improvement and when there wasn't...
