We stayed at the Desert Inn this last week. Location couldn't be better. Just right across the cross walk from Disneyland.
We had a Parlor suite with a Spa tub. We could easily fit 4 kids into the tub, it was that big. The room had a microwave and a Refrigirator w/freezer at no extra cost. There were 2 beds in the main bedroom, and they were comfortable. There was a sofa bed in the parlor room. There was a TV in each bedroom.
We parked our van in the basement parking garage. Upon checking we got a parking permit for one vehicle. It was nice to have indoor parking.
The pool is an indoor pool. The pool area felt very hot and muggy, but that is to be expected with an indoor pool. There is no wading pool.
The breakfast was poor. Toast, 1 type of fruit, 1 type of pastry, milk, juice and coffee.
The room was kept clean, and the staff was very nice. The elevator was incredibly slow.
Will we stay there again? Only if we travel with other people so we need more room. If my two children and I travel by ourselves, we will stay at the Candy Cane.
The only drawback with the Candy Cane is that you have to walk a little further. Also, they have no suites. The positives outweigh the negatives. And you can always use their shuttle.
At the Candy Cane you have an outdoor pool, which includes a wading pool and outdoor hot tub. The premises at the Candy Cane are gorgeous, and much nicer than the Desert Inn.
The Candy Cane has a much better breakfast which includes: Several types of cereal, including the infamous Fruit Loops for the kids, milk, juice, coffee, bagles, toast, several types of pastries, and several types of fruit. At the Candy Cane we never thought about eating breakfast someplace else, at the Desert Inn we only ate breakfast twice, and went someplace else the other days.
The rooms at the Candy Cane are prettier. Though they are not as large, since they are suites, and you have to pay extra for a refridgerator, they are a lot nicer.
Bottom line, I prefer the Candy Cane.
