Just thought I would pass this along....
We will be staying at the Desert Inn and Suites this week and I got an email from them today stating that as of December 1st they will be charging a $8 daily parking fee.
A little frustrating to find out two days before you plan to be there that they will now be charging a daily parking fee. Doesn't seem fair to tell you that 2 days before considering when I booked it 7+ months ago, I had a planned budget in mind and a additional parking fee was not part of it.

I think they should take the time of booking in mind and let you park free, but in my experience that never has happened to us. Everything in travel is always in a state of flux.

jack is right.

but also you got to consider that fee's and stuff at any hotel can change at anytime. so my question is can you change your hotel? the hojo has free parking... just a suggestion

I agree with Jack as well, but I'm sure the hotel won't.

I get that hotels change their policies frequently but I guess I would have expected more notice than 2 days. For some people an additional $8 a day may be just enough to be more than they can afford especially if you are staying several days.
Part of the reason I book so far in advance is to get the best deal and it affords me the most amount of options in terms of where I would like to stay...obviously the closer it gets to your date- the more expensive it gets.
Location was the biggest appeal of this hotel and the rate I got is great too but the fact that they didn't charge a parking fee was a perk as well. It really starts to add up when you figure in all the fees, taxes and xtra charges and now a parking fee on top of it.

At this point, I'm sure even if I could switch, the rates at the surrounding hotels would be far more expensive.
O well. I'll still enjoy my trip but I thought I would pass it along to any folks that may be looking to stay there and don't know about the new fee.

I would call and see if they will waive it, reduce it or let you cancel with no fee. That's just ridiculous! $8 a day is a lot for a parking fee imo.

They have such a small parking lot that in the past they said only car per room. Maybe they needed to cut down on parking abuses. I would talk to the front desk at check in. They have alway been the best people to help with special requests.

I noticed they had the fee posted on their site a few months ago, when everyone was talking that the GCH was going to start charging for parking. You probably haven't been checking the site though, since you're already booked. I'm sorry it ruined your budget - we were on a really tight budget as well.

Lame. Their site said before that the fees were starting in January. I guess they decided to take a running start

They already started sending those e-mails out for October stays. I got one when I stayed there for Halloween.
