Depth of planning?

I love planning vacations. I have a chart that has all the phone and reservation numbers split out by days. This being said, I plan a lot more for Disney than I do for US. One of the reasons we love US is that we can be more flexible because of FOTL.

I usually get the air, room, & tickets within the same time frame - this trip it was 5 months ahead of time. I'm big into finding the cheapest rates and this trip I got a free upgrade w/Lowes so I knew I had to book ahead of time since we are going during the 4th of July week.

It is in my blood to plan and chart, it helps me relax and it's fun for me! I also enjoy reading information (love this site) and getting great ideas. My DH thought it was a bit much until one year we got 'stuck' at the HRH during a hurricane. I had all of the info organized which made calling the airlines/parking/car services easy. He now appreciates and praises my efforts ;).

ok, so i'm the odd ball out here on this question.

i always plan in advance for my UO trips. the only spontaneous things that happen are when i am actually in the park. i might meet up with others or run into someone i know. when that happens, i go with the flow.

in the first week of january, i book the room and in feb, i book the flight. i have found my air tickets are better during the winter for my october trips.

then i plan which park for which day for the daytime.

i also plan in advance my schedule for the day for eating and returning to the room to change.

i do the parks early morning and leave in the afternoon to the hotel.
then i return around 4ish for the stay and scream area for hhn and wait until it opens.

other than that, i wing it.

for trips that are not hhn related, i do plan the places i will eat at.
i like to get the shows in and work around that schedule based on past times shows happen.

most of the anticipation for the trip is the plannng for me. it psychs me up big time. i relive all the great things i have done in the parks, hotel, and city walk in the past. And, i plan for the future trip to exceed the thrills and fun for me.

We always return to the hotel (onsite or offsite) to clean up, recharge a bit and get ready for evening activities. I can't really think of any time where we haven't done this.

Same for us!

some people will just wing it, others HAVE to have a plan....to each his/her own! ...but, heed the air, hotel and ticket advice and do that asap.
