Deposit Requirements?

What are the deposit requirements for HRH. We are going June of 2003 and I was going to make reservations and was wondering how much to budget for deposit

I was charged the cost of 1 night at the hotel as a deposit. I am told this is policy for all Universal Hotels. If you cancel no later than 5 days prior to your stay, I was told the deposit is fully refundable. I'd make the reservation. If something comes up you can always cancel according to Universal's cancellation policy.

Do they charge your credit card or give you "x" amount of time to send the deposit to them like Disney?

I used my credit card. I think it's easier to get a credit if need be. You have very little protection using a check or money order. If you have a dispute with a charge, the credit card company will sort it out. You just have to notify them in writing. Glad I used a credit card instead of a check when Air Aruba file bankruptcy. Some of the people who paid by check didn't get their money back. I received a full refund from my credit card company.

I sent them a check. They gave me 10 days I think. I called them to verify it had gotten there ok and I had no problems getting my money back when I had to cancel. They sent me a check back.

I am sure you won't have a problem getting a refund from a check with Universal. However, you never know. Better to be safe than sorry. I would rather have the added protection of the credit card. Just send the check to Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or Discover instead.
