Okay, for any of the ladies that have taken Depo, how long did it take you to get pregnant afterwards? I have been taking it for over 4 years, my last shot was in November of 03 (haven't gone in to get it because of issues with my cancer treatment, and just kind of forgetting). Not that I wouldn't be happy being pregnant, just now is not the right time with the whole cancer deal. Thanks for any help!!!

ok - this isn't me personally, but my friend got pregnant right away after stopping depro.

she was due to go in for her shot in april (or whatever month it was) however she didn't have the money/time/whatever (with her it's always something)...2 months later she was pregnant.

her husband just has to LOOK at her to get her pregnant.

I did it for 3 years, 8 years after the first shot I am still not pg. That is the most evil, vile thing known to women :(

Not me, but a friend was on it for about 3 years. She went off it about 2 years ago and her body is still having problems getting back to "normal".

Her doc told her until her body reregulates itself there is little chance she'll get pregnant.

I was on it for 2 years. When my DH and I started thinking about having another baby I started on the pill again to get my body on a regular schedule. I stayed on the pill for a year and I got pregnant the first month I stopped taking the pill.

How long after you got off the shot did your period come back..

I have an appointment on 9-30 and am debating on not going -- I have been on the shot for about 7.5 years and I just can't lose weight to save my soul so am thinking if i get off and my body doesn't have any chemicals to hold it in i might lose some that creept on in the past years -- I ask because my trip starts on 10/28 and don't want to have to deal with my first one in YEARS on my Disney vacation !!

Thanks Michelle

My period never stopped and I got preg. within 3 months of stopping the depo.

I'm on depo and love it, but planning to never be pregnant again if I can help it, so I can't answer your question....but I just had to tell you that my son would love your avatar. :) He absolutely loves the Packers.

I will also add that this thread is the first time I've heard of anyone having difficulty getting pregnant after going off depo.....most people I've know have ended up getting pregnant much more quickly than anticipated.

I was on depo for three years and my doctor told me when I stopped that it could take up to a year to get pregnant. It took almost exactly a year. Don't get discouraged!

Well if anyone can help that would be great .. I was on the Pill for 11 years then switched to Depo after DS was born in 1996 right now there is No way for for me to get Preg (read as can't do it by myself LOL !!) but when I was on the pill it was within 3 months of stopping both times.. i just wanted to know if I should get one more because I do NOT want to start having a period again when I am on my trip ( one month away from when i should be having my shot ) .. Thanks

For pregnancy number 1 - Was on it for 6 years, had last shot in February '99, got my period in August '99, was pregnant by September '99.

For pregnancy number 2 (now) - was on it for 3 1/2 years, had last shot in July 2003, got my period in January 2004, was pregnant by March 2004 (with no period between January and March).

I liked the stuff, but would probably not go on it again. I didn't like the things it was doing to my body and that's why I stopped taking it last July. I don't know what I'm going to do after this one is born - I'm horrible with the pill.

I have not had experience with it.

A friend of mine did use it for about 3 years after their second DD was born. They decided to add a third child to their family, so she went off the shot. It was horrible for her. She had suffered three miscarriages before finally going to term with her third DD. She has been very outspoken against it due to what she has been through. She found a post Depo support group on-line. The stories of these poor women:(

HI - Yes i did over the 7.5 years I have been taking it ( after DS was born i weighted 158 now up to 188 ) of course i guess that could just be -- but i can't lose a pound and keep it off -- in the last 6 years my weight has been between 185-189 .. there is just no way to lose !!! so that is why i am looking to get off it but want to talk to others who have done it .. I think I will put in a call to Dr and see what he says ..

Yes. #1 reason I quit.

Didn't read the whole thread but this got me thinking and I wanted to share a little about my Depo experience if anyone is considering it that wants to get preggers after use.
I took Depo and for three months bled straight, then no period for almost a year, after $$$$ and GYN/OB appts I did get pregnant and shortly there after miscarried and I've had nothing but problems since. I am against Depo, I gained weight, felt terrible, it cause long lasting issues, etc.

I was on this for a year, after DS was born, and it did nothing but terriable things to me. Between shot one and two, had spotting the whole time. After DS was born I lost all of that weight and was fitting back into jeans that I wore in high school. After starting Depo, I gained it all back and then some.

Calling this stuff birth control is an under statement!!! While taking this stuff, I didn't feel like having sex, I didn't want to have anything to do with it. Finally after feeling like crap for so long and then getting accused by my DH of having an affair cause I wasn't having sex with him {I didn't want to have it with anyone period!!! LOL!!!} I knew it was time to stop. My doctor talked to my DH about this stuff and what it does to a woman's body to get him to understand.

About 3 months after taking my last shot, I got pg, or so I thought. Within two days of finding out I was "pg" I had a MC. When I went to the doctors, he said, if he really thought this would make me feel any better, that there was no embryo inside the sack. He told me to wait 3 months before trying again.
I did just that and then on Dec 24 1998 found out that I was pg with DD {what a Christmas present}. I wish I would have waited a little longer.

When DD was born, that is when we found out that she has Down Syndrome. Now I feel, and this is only ME, that taking Depo played a small factor in this. There are women that have been on it and have healthy babies. It's just IMO, that in my case this happened. I just wanted to clear that up and not scare anyone.

But to this day, I would not trade DD for the anything!!!! ::yes::
