Hi, just wondered if any of you ladies on the board have ever used this injection instead of the pill? I have been using it since May and seem to have had quite a few side effects, such as incresed head aches, weight gain, feeling depressed and spotting everyday.

I would be gratful if you could post your experiences if you have used this drug as I am deciding what to do now. I am due for another injecteion next week but I don't want to have this unless I have to!

Thanks for your help.

I took this drug, 10 years or so ago, I have trouble with contraceptives and this was a last ditch attempt.

Until I came off it, I didnt realise how bad I felt whilst on it!. Seemed I was dead from the waist down if you get my drift!, very emotional, and gained weight.Suffered terribly with headaches, and in the end had to be steralised.

It wasnt one of the best things Ive tried Sorry

thanks, i feel much the same, also feeling very emotional, like if someone says boo to me I end up in tears and feel so dumb for it all the time.
I am deffinatly going to come off it, but trying to get an appointment with the doctor is like trying to get tea with the queen if you get my drift.

Gems,
Just sent a PM to you which is rather long!! But basically the injection has changed my life and I feel so much better having it as I have no monthly pain now.

I had this injection in 1996 after my 3rd child, I was 36 and had a bad time and wanted to make sure I didn't have another - big mistake - I was really ill with it and had very bad headaches - I now have migraines - which I believe were caused by this jag.

Hi

I also had this many many years ago and it didn't agree with me either. I thought they'd taken it off the market or was that the contraceptive implants?

Another one who didn't get on with this form of contraception. Went from constant bleeding to not having a period for 6 months (long after I stopped having the injection)

Another long term method for you could be the coil(IUD) with impregnated hormones - I had mine fitted about 6 months ago. and the results have been amazing - my PMT has nearly gone and my periods are so ight is unbelievable - the first 2 months are almost a continuous spotting then it just stops!!
A bit uncomfortable when fitted (I nearly cried) but that soon wears off within 2 hours.
Alos your body doesn't get that large hit of hormones in one go, just a tiny enough amount to help the coil do it's job. I can't take the pill or the injection now cos i'm too old!!!! so this is ideal.

Know what you mean about the dosctor waiting lists - unless you're dying you have to fight the receptionist to get seen within a fortnight!!!

I used the Depo injection after I had Teri, and I noticed I did put on weight but the worst thing was really bad painful acne... something I had never suffered from before (or since).... yes it was great having no periods but for me it wasn't worth the pain and it really was painful skin!!!!!

Now I just have to suffer the painful PMT cramps and Hubby took care of the birth control;) ;) !!!!!!!
