Dentist

My tooth has been niggling but the dentist has said there is nothing wrong (and taken an x ray).

If I need to see a dentist whilst over there, how would i go about finding one, since would not have computer on me, and going flight only.

Would FC still help me with a contact number?

You might be able to get help with a contact number but be VERY VERY careful. Dental care in the US is extortionate and you are billed separately for each thing (1 x cotton swab, 1 dab disinfectant .... plus the consultation fee, etc). Make sure FIRST that they will accept travel insurance and that you don't have to pay upfront.

We have had cards slipped into our room with details of a nearby dentist which does accept travel insurance. I might still have it in my folder from last year so I will have a look when I get home tonight and I will post to let you know.

Sorry Eeyore, I haven't forgotten about you. Hunted all over for that card last night and can't find it. I did bring it back as I thought it would be good for future reference. There is one more place it might be and I have to go back into the loft tonight to get something down for DD so I will check again.

We're with Amex travel insurance and on our last trip I lost part of a filling.

I rang Amex and they found a dentist for me - however on looking at my tooth he determined that I had 'English teeth' and therefore couldn't do anything for me - how embarrasing. Dentists in the US seem to want to do the best possible job on your teeth - if you lose part of a mercury filling they won't replace it

The good news is that they didn't charge me an exhorbitant amount just to tell me they couldn't treat me.

My advice would be - if you think you need anything doing get it done before you go - otherwise wait till you come back.

Dental care in the US is VERY different! Mercury shouldn't be in the human body anyway. I am sure the NHS will find a way to justify it though

I simply cannot find that business card/flyer thing anywhere Found all kinds of other things though Sorry Eeyore You may find something in your room when you check in. They usually have several advertisements, business cards and flyers on the nightstand or on the table in the room.

It's no trouble at all! Honestly, DD has been nagging repetitively for days for me to get something down for her. At least you don't nag and I did offer My dear daughter also then decided a couple of hours after I packed the ladder away that she wanted something else from up there

Unfortunately, or rather fortunately I have never had the need of a dentist whilst in the US, I have in Jamaica mind but that is a whole other story

However, before our trip last October I read a thread reagrding items that you purchase in the US for use in the UK. One of these items was a Tooth ache reliever called "Kanka Gel". Having since used it I cannot recommend it enough, it is a buy of the shelf product and I think I got ours from CVS.

Gee Wizz, I swear it wouldnt be licenced in the UK, or only allowed from a prescription but if it takes that toothache away its got to be worth

Just thought I would let you know about the product in case you get desperate whilst over there and cant get straight into a dentist. Fingers crossed you will be fine

i had a dental emergency 3 years ago when i was at WDW with DD (just the two of us that trip)..

we were staying at the GF i think...
i called reception and they gave me the number of a dental practice with same day appointments..

i called up that dentist, but he didn't have anything available, so they referred me to a different practice..

i called them up and they said come on over....it was quite a long drive (the dentist recommended by disney was in celebration, the second referal was in a really nice neighborhood beyond universal (don't know the name).

this dentist was outstanding....he took a look and immediately determined i would need a root canal...he said that he had a root canal specialist there who could do it right away, but he suggested that i wait until i get back home ..
instead he presribed antibiotics and painkillers that he said would take effect after a few hours.....and that once i got home i should go to my own dentist for the root canal..
but he left it up to me to choose...if i wanted the root canal they would do it the same day..

so i took his advice...
i was able to fill the presription at a nearby pharmacy (walgreens or whatever)....

i was very impressed that he didn't push me into a root canal, from which he would have made a tidy little profit...

and as i recall, he barely charged me anything for the office visit...

unfortunately, i didn't write down his name and number..

but bottom line, you could call the hotel reception to ask for a recommendation...

Whether it is wishful thinking but it does not seem to hurt as bad today, when it hurts, I just cannot understand how a tooth can hurt when eating certain things, when a dentist has checked it and done an x ray, but fingers crossed whatever it was is setting down
