So he fired a woman who looked on him as a father because he felt that her nurses scubs made it irrisitable ane he might want to have an affair with her. The fact they had worked together for ten years and she was a stellar worker doesn't matter, nor does the fact she want interested. His wife wanted her sacked and now she is. The fact that she is now working as a waitress makes me wonder if he is trying to stop her getting not get job in the sme field.

There has got to be more to that story. It says they texted often outside of work.

Fact is you can be fired for any reason. Hers was the dentists wife I think. How would you like to be the one hired to replace her? " what so I am not irrissistable?"

Text messages about their personal lives? That's the beginning right there. I'd want her gone too if I were his wife. And isn't there a nursing shortage in this country? If she can't find a job, there must be a reason, but I'd think it had more to do with her experience and performance than anything he said. Unless of course he gave her a terrible recommendation.

I think you are right I bet he tried it on and was told no so he sacked her. I also believe from the way he and his wife reacted he is probably already cheating with someone else and she is getting the blame

Possibly, but the fact that she was exchanging personal texts with him show that she was not innocent in any of this.

If the article is true, then she could file sexual harrassment charges against the dentist. Of course, anyone who would give personal info to an employer about the regularity of having sex with her spouse may have a hard time proving it was harrassment.

She's not a nurse. She's a dental assistant. CNN She and her lawyer have already taken the case to the Iowa Supreme Court, which did not find anything illegal with her firing.

From the article above...

Nelson filed a lawsuit alleging gender discrimination, arguing she would not have been terminated if she was male. She did not allege sexual harassment because Knight's conduct may not have risen to that level and didn't particularly offend her, Fiedler said.

Sorry I can't believe that you would be allowed to fire someone for that reason. It boggles my mind that you would allow that to happen.

I didn't click on the link. This just seems too cut and dried for me. Of course he shouldn't continue working with someone he is attracted to that way at the expense to his marriage. No brainer IMO. He's the dentist, he can't leave. His only choice is to "sack" her. In a bigger business you could move people around. He could transfer. That isn't an option here.

You know, there are times employment simply doesn't work out. The idea that once hired means forever is ridiculous for many reasons.

Is it fair to the employee? No. But life isn't always fair. If this were a large business, I'd be on her side. But to tell a small employer that they have to continue to work with someone forever once they hired them is just wrong IMO.

You shouldn't be able to fire someone because you find them too attractive. People need to learn self control. That wife must be a nightmare to live with if she really insisted he fire the woman.

The wife found texts between the 2 of them- this assistant isn't an innocent here.

I'm with "more to the story."

I wonder how many texts the wife found. My BIL was texting his young chickie 100+ a day. If she read the texts, there may be more to the story too.

Who tells their boss about their sex life? Esp. the opposite sex. Esp. if you think he is interested in you in any way and let's face it, we can always tell.

I just think there is much more to the whole story--especially since I witnessed a 54yo doctor getting interested in a 15yo employee who kept saying, "I'm just a father figure." Yeah, right.

Bad situation but if she was a good dental assistant, she should have no trouble getting a job. Most of the girls in my dentist's office are much prettier than she is. Unless word is out and she is flirtatious and trouble...

I don't care if they were texting each other, the fact that she can be fired and the reason listed is that she was too attractive is ridiculous.

If the wife had to resort to that maybe she needs to look at their own relationship.

She is not a NURSE..............just saying! I worked hard and studied hard to be called a Nurse. She was working as a Dental Assistant. Not sure what the schooling is for that, but she is not a Nurse.

And scrubs being sexy? Really? In what universe? I wore them for years, and they always looked equally unattractive on everyone.:rotfl:

I don't want to get into the middle of the whether this is right or not, but I suspect there is a lot more to this story. Deb

Exactly. They were texting about personal matters and his wife found out. I don't feel sorry for her. If you don't want the wife of your boss to consider you a threat to her marriage, then don't text her husband about personal things.

I think the wife is looking at her relationship hence the fired assistant. Hey, I'm a secretary in a surgeon's office- If I were sending personal texts to one of my doctors I wouldn't be surprised to be fired. One of us would have to go and let's face it, I'd be a lot easier to replace.

I agree it would be easier but I still don't think there should be any way for you to fire a person for the stated reason. If you tried that here it would definitely cost you.

I see what you're saying. It must vary state to state.
