Flo,
As a dental hygienist for 17 years, I understand your concern! I don't live in the area but a good bit of advice is to check with the American Dental Assoc. Your current dentist, if he is a member(which he should be) has a book with the listing of dentists in all states who are members. Endodontist-the specialty for root canals- are usually much more expensive for emergency visits but you will get more expertice if the root canal procedure was complicated or out of the ordinary. If it was routine, I would suggest seeing a GP(regular dentist) if you have a problem. Most complications from root canals are easily handled by a competent professional.
I would strongly suggest taking anti-inflamm.-like Advil or Motrin prior to flight. As long as your family members don't have any contraindications for that type of medicine. Also ask you GP or Endo. about carrying some antibiotic for emergencies(or ask for a prescription you can have filled only if necessary). I read in the Unofficial guide that there is a Pharmacy that will deliver to a resort for a small fee. At least let them know you will be in WDW and that you "may" need them to call in a prescription if there are complications-take their business card! My experience is though, that if you are in pain you don't want to wait for a called-in presc. The big concern about post root canal issues is air trapped in the canal that can expand during flight and secondary infection if all the root wasn't removed or you have an accesory canal(extra canal that are not common anatomically). You should make sure you wait several days to weeks, if possible, before flying.
Sorry for the length! Hope that helps.topgumm
