We are headed home from our very first Disney trip. It went very well, but we learned a lot and want to improve for next years. We stayed off site this time, but now we want to stay on site in a MK resort.

Has anyone done the villas at Contemporary? How far in advance can you book? We want to do early December 2014.

Are the magic bands out of testing? We want those too. :)

Do you mean Bay Lake Tower, the building right next to the Contemporary? You can book directly through Disney probably about a year in advance, but I wouldn't recommend that option. If you really want to stay there, you should look into renting points from a DVC member, it will end up being about half the cost. Members can make reservations 11 months out if they have points at a specific resort, or 7 months out at any DVC resort. There is a rent/trade forum in the DVC section of the Disboards, or you can also put in a request through a broker like Davids, at www.dvcrental.com .
I would start with David's to learn about the process, plus he had some very handy points and cost calculators.
One thing to know is that October through December is a VERY busy DVC time, especially early December, so be sure to get your request in early for this time period.

Currently right now every on-site guest gets magic bands and FP+.

Bay Lake Tower is very handy when you want to go to the MK. If you want to go to Epcot, you take the monorail. If you want to go to DHS or AK, you take a bus. The studio at BLT sleeps four with a queen sized bed and double sized sleeper sofa. But it is very small. So it works best with maybe two adults with one small child. Not sure what sized family you have.

You can find out more about BLT on the DVC Resorts Board on the DIS.

Should you decide to "rent DCV points", be aware of some differences. You are not booking with Disney. You are purchasing a reservation that a DVC member has made with their points. (DVC is Disney's version of a timeshare) Members usually offer no cancellation policy, so if you book it you cannot get any refund if you need to cancel. And they usually don't have any changes. You don't get daily housekeeping.
