On the Fantasy:
how much difference does that extra 50 sq ft make? There will be three of us and i worried about feeling cramped. Is it just the space where the Murphy bed goes ?(DS (8) will want the bunk bed anyway, as a treat) Is either the bathroom or the verandah any bigger than the Cat 5. Not sure whether to try and upgrade or not. Is the location better? The option I have is 4B GTY. I have a midship 5 , deck 7 booked.

There really is no difference except that little extra room at the balcony end of the room that allows for the little murphy bed to pull down that will lay parallel to the balcony. It does feel a little roomier of course, because it is. :cutie:

Oh, depending on the ship you're sailing the location of a Cat 4 can be considered "better". I know on the Classic ships the Cat 4's are on the top cabin deck along with the suites/concierge. I've been in a Cat 4 several times, mostly on the Classics, but once on the Dream as well. If I am remembering correctly the Cat 4's on the Fantasy and Dream are not on just one deck? Someone here will know that for sure.

The higher the deck, the higher the price as a rule, but if anyone gets bad motion sickness it can be preferable to be on a lower deck. To me it's a bigger deal in this instance to just not be way forward or way aft if someone suffers motion sickness. JMHO.

You likely won't be in your stateroom a ton, so only you can decide if the extra $$ are worth it for a tad extra space. Or would you rather spend those $ on something onboard? Either way, have fun!!!

On the Dream and Fantasy the cat 4 bathrooms are different. They have a nice round shower with a rain head. I like them much better than the tub / shower combos in the regular balcony rooms.

We sailed in a Deluxe on the Fantasy in October. It was me, my husband and our 9 year old. Plenty of space for us. Although we didn't spend a huge amount of time in the room. If you're looking to save some money, the deluxe is fine. If you want a slightly bigger room go Family.

Thanks for mentioning this. I actually like baths. To clarify: Are you saying the Deluxe are better than the Family if one wants a bath ? (For short mom and child. Doesn't look like a tall person could bathe in any of them.)

Good to know

We had a category 4E, deluxe family ocean view with verandah (oversized). The key to this one is knowing the verandah is what makes it deluxe family, not extra stateroom space or fancy bathroom. We went in knowing that, but I know some get very ticked because they don't and expect the room to be deluxe as well. In our room, 5052, the verandah was HUGE, like bigger than the room huge. It's beside a utility room and beside that are the lifeboats so they extend the verandah over to the lifeboats. It was an amazing space to have, and mind boggling how big it was. Not really private though, all balconies above could look down onto the outer half of our verandah. So be aware that not all category 4 are actual deluxe family style with extra stateroom space, just recategorized ocean view with verandah rooms.

If you go to DCL's website and go to the stateroom descriptions and click on gallery you will see pictures of both types of rooms, including the bathtub/showers. You "could" take a bath in either, but honestly it's never even entered my mind to try in either type. But then, I'm 5'9" :P and my "baby" will be 18 in 5 weeks. YMMV.

Exactly what @Pens Fan said :) We've only had a "deluxe family" one time which was the time we booked an OGT and DCL assigned the cabin and my DH still talks about the round tub and more importantly the spa type shower head. There is also more storage space in the shower/tub as there is a nice sized ledge area in there as well.

For the 3 of us it's not worth it but if you need more cabin space, the extra bed (if traveling with 5) or the slightly "fancier" bathroom then it might be worth it.
