I am new to DVC (just got my member # last Sunday) I have booked a deluxe studio at Boardwalk villas and have questions about towels. How many towels will we have in the room when we arrive? How do we go about cleaning these towels ( given there is no laundry in-room)? Are we able to get more clean ones, if not what is the alternative? Thanks, we will be taking my nephew and want over everything right:thumbsup2

There will be four towels in the room. You'll get more on the fourth day (after the third night), or you can pay for n extra towel pack, or wash them in the common laundry room.

We don't launder the towels but we do the wash cloths or bring extras from home. I am clean when I dry off on my towel so I don't have any problems hanging them to dry (even if it is across the shower rod) and reusing the towels later.

We usually bring back extra pool towels to the room after we
use the pool:)

I don't know if you are just trying to stir the pot, but you are not suppose to be bringing pool towels to the room. If you want towels, either pay for them or wash them.

:) To each his own but I gotta problem with it. I am paying dues to launder towels used throughout the resort. To keep cost down I use the towels provided me in my studio and either wash or reuse them until more are delivered. When I am at the pool I use pool towels and drop them off in the designated bin. If you need extra towels your only option should be to wash or pay the $6 for another pack delivered to the room....sorry it is black and white for me. I understand everyone is entitled to their opinion and will do what they will do but this really bothers me. It is a timeshare not a hotel.

off the rant box...sorry... I had to go there.

How does using a towel in the room help keep costs down? How does using a towel from the pool make costs go up? Does using more than 1 towel while at the pool increase costs? Serious questions?

Due to chlorination, pool towels are laundered differently.

Regardless, taking a towel from the pool to use in the room means that you're using more towels than allotted for your stay. Maintenance fees are based on the costs associated with laundering a set number of towels per villa. As more people use more towels without paying the extra fee for a towel pack, the costs go up and those costs are paid by all owners. So, you taking one towel from the pool may increase my dues by .01¢. But as more people do it, that starts turning into real money.

Maintenance fees include the towels for the pool also, not just the Villa. Furthermore, each resort has towels allocated for the villas capacity x365, since in reality each villa can be occupied for 365 one night stays. Also the pool towels are part of my allotment. There are enough pool towels for each villas capacity for everyday of the year. I have used pool towels in the room and returned them to the pool the next day. I don't believe that raised DVC's cost any. Not 1 cent. Again, I ask, What about the little girl with the long walk back to the room after swimming in December? Can she not bring it to the room and return it later? And where does it state that this can not be done?

There is no problem with someone walking back from the pool wrapped in a towel and then bringing that towel back later and putting it in the towel bin at the pool. There is a problem with people grabbing an armload of clean towels from the pool area and taking them to use in the room to avoid paying for a towel pack.

DVC allots a certain number of towels per room. If you want more you are supposed to pay for a towel pack so that you pay for the extra amenities that you want. The same applies to extra shampoo, soap or laundry detergent. DVC supplies a certain amount per room and you want more, you are expected to pay for it.

If we encourage everybody to grab extra towels from the pool rather than paying for a towel pack, the cost to supply and launder pool towels goes up because more towels are being used and that increases everyone's dues.

I do not hoard pool towels, but after I swim I bring back a towel to my studio to shower off the chlorine.

Not arguing or stirring the pot...just a few genuine questions:

Not sure what difference it makes if I am staying in a DVC room at the Grand Californian or a regular hotel room at the Grand...how would they keep track of the cost of laundering the pool towels from a DVC room or a regular room?

Do the DVC dues go up if I use 4 towels in the pool area vs. 1 towel?

The percentage paid by DVC dues is based on the percentage of DVC guests at the hotel as a whole. SO if pool towels cost $100/year to wach(I know not at all realistic) and 58% of the hotel guests are on DVC points then DVC pays $58 for washing pool towels. Of course the more towels that are used the more laundering them costs so if you are using extra pool towels for non-pool use then everyone is paying more for those towels. If you need more room towels then you should pay for room towels- the cost is built into getting these.

And pool towels used by hotel guests are figured into the costs of good sold for the hotel room. There are many reasons your DVC room costs less per night - and one of those reasons is that we are allocated a much smaller cost for cleaning rooms - including laundry - than the hotel side is.

It is my understanding that the room laundry and the pool laundry are processed by different groups. The pool towels are different by design to designate them as pool towels. Pool towels left in the room have to be sorted and sent to the pool towel facility which costs more.
