My 4yr old son and I go to WDW every year. This year we are going for his 5th birthday. We always do the Regular DP, this year I said lets try the Deluxe DP. I have 2 questions?

1st ? I am looking and trying to figure out what is the advantage for him being on the deluxe plan verses the regular.

2nd ? I have looked at the menus on allears. I see many appys that I would love to try but many say they are for 2 what happens to those single people on the Deluxe Plan? Will they let me order half the portion.

About the appetizer for two, you'd have to ask at the restaurant, but most reports are that an appetizer for two can be ordered only by two people on DDP and split. If you're not on DDP any party can order an appetizer for two. Some restaurants may allow one person on DDP to order appetizers for two and some may not. I have not heard of half portions being offered. In fact, I think the reason they started adding so many appetizers for 2 to the menus is to control how certain dishes were ordered on the deluxe dining plan.

For the child, the only advantage is that you get 3 interchangeable meal credits and 2 snacks a night, and a mug, rather than 1 TS 1 CS and 1 snack credit a night. There's no general difference in the kids' meals as their "appetizers" are included on both plans.

Thanks so much. I think it is a bit unfair to the single person on the Deluxe DP. seems like the better appys are for 2.

That's one reason I have never used the deluxe DDP and I now won't use the dining plan in any form - I prefer to order the way I want to order, and not the way Disney wants me to order.

The world is geared for sets of 2, but you probably know that anyway. Same goes for a helicopter ride, packages and other excursions. You know: kids go free but you need 2 adults, therefore your child pays full price :sad2: I don't think it's fair (for me ;)) but I do understand why certain organisations and businesses do it.

Have you calculated if you would be better off getting the regular DDP and buying your appetizer OOP? It will depend on where you want to eat, what you eat and how many TS you plan on per day, but character meals (I presume you will be doing a few) are only one credit and even if you did an extra TS on every other day you might still be better off just buying the extras you want.

As I say, it depends on how and where you plan to eat so I could be way off on this one.

I know the world love things that come in pairs. I do understand this for some reasons for instance when me and my son take our yearly Disney Cruise I always have to pay adult price for him, which I have no problem and besides he eats like an adult no kiddie meals for him :). I realize that businesses are here to make money and cruise ships want each cabin to be occupied by 2 full paying passengers. I just think on the deluxe plan we should have the option to split and appy for 2. The grip would be the same even if I had another adult with me. I may want to order the antipasto plate for 2 but if my partner didn’t want it then I would be in the same predicament as a single person.WDW get back to making all appys for one person its not fair and I am jumping up and down throwing a Disney tantrum:laughing:

:rotfl: Don't worry, I've been there and still like to have my little rant from time to time (which I justify by stating that it is good for the soul ;)).

Nala said that some restaurants may accommodate your request based on the composition of your party. I can't advise you on that because I have never tried. Unfortunatley I think it will be a case of finding out when you get to each place though. You know how Disney is: the rules change per day, per venue and per CM you speak to :headache: Some may well accommodate you but you won't be able to pick and choose what you want beforehand, which could make planning ADRs a bit tricky if you are eating somewhere for a specific menu item.

I agree! There are some restaurants though that do allow solos to order the appetizers for two. I know the Rose & Crown and Mama Melrose do. At least they did this past Dec and again this past May.

Tutto Italia and Le Cellier are two that I know do not (believe me I asked:rolleyes1).

My experience with the deluxe plan and apps designated 'for 2' was that at Rose and Crown I was able to order the cheese plate just for myself and DH got his own appetizer, and also the apps at Sanaa designated for 2 were allowed to be ordered by one person allowing the other to get his/her own app. This annoyed me at the time since after 6 days of deluxe dining we were so full that DH and I wanted to split these things but they insisted at each place that we each needed to get something, oh well it was all wonderful:worship: This was in early January 2010 so it does not hurt to ask.
