Deluxe or AoA Suite???

I've booked my trip in Late January for a Nemo suite at AoA for hubby and I and our 3 kids (dd's 10, 3, and 1..almost 2). With the new deals getting ready to come out, my question is, would it be worth it to upgrade to a Deluxe hotel? Would my kids be miserable there? Would they be happier with the theming and things to do at AoA? I would personally love the opportunity to stay in a deluxe with monorail access but I didnt know if the kids would be unhappy or we wouldnt have much room.

I went through the exact same dilemma this past August. I have three children, 7, 8, and 11. I thought and rethought and calculated and recalculated. Money wasn't really an issue, as the cost difference between the rack rate AoA suite price and the heavily discounted deluxe rates was pretty small. These were the factors that weighed in:

1. How big is the room?

The AoA suite is 565 sq. Epcot deluxe standard rooms are 380 sq feet. The Poly has larger rooms with the max being 477 sq. ft.

2. How many bathrooms?

The AoA suites have two full bathrooms. The deluxes have only one.

3. With 3 kids, what amenities do I plan to use? How much?

The pool. Slides didn't really factor in it, as our community center indoor/outdoor pools have slides. They typically go down once or twice, then spend the rest of the time splashing. We wanted to use the pools to cool off in the afternoon, and to take a nice dip before bed. The AoA Big Blue Pool is amazing, and we all loved it. You can see the Epcot fireworks while standing in the pool in the evenings, and that was an awesome perk.

I took a look at the pools at some of the resorts when we visited them for dinner. The deluxe pools all have slides, and it looked like the kids were really enjoying them. If you are people who are going to spend most of your time in the pool, then the deluxes might have more appeal to you.

Hot Tubs. Most deluxes have hot tubs (not Poly), and I absolutely adore sitting in them. Since kids aren't allowed in, my husband and I have to take turns, which takes some of the fun out of it.

4. Will we want to eat at the hotel a lot?

We only ate at the resort a couple of times, usually for a quick lunch. We like to do very early morning ADRs in the parks, and then sit down meals at a different deluxe resort every evening.

The AoA food court has good food, and we were very happy with what we got there. Mostly, though, we ate elsewhere.

5. How many beds are there, and will we be comfortable?

The AoA has 3 beds total. The master bedroom has a queen sized bed, the living area has a full sized pull out couch, and the third area has the table bed. All of the beds were surprisingly comfortable. My kids loved the beds at AoA. They had fun switching off and sleeping in different beds each night. Two of them easily fit in either of the beds. We were able to relax in the evenings with my husband and I watching TV in the bedroom, which the kids happily watched a movie on the other room. Not to mention having privacy with a closed door later on. Wink wink.

The deluxes meant that we'd have two queen beds and a daybed. Everybody has to sleep in the same space, so when the kids are pooped out, my husband and I have nothing really to do except sit outside the room on the balcony, or go to bed ourselves. We typically want to relax and read or watch TV for a while before sleep, but that will keep the kids up. All of us in one sleeping space is not appealing. For other families, this is a non issue entirely.

6. Theming.

My kids went gaga for the AoA. I admit that I did the same. We stayed in the Cars suite, and we were constantly amazed that we really felt like we were in the movies. While we loved visiting the Deluxe resorts for dinner (we loved the Poly), we liked that we felt part of the magic at our resort.

When my kids are older, I think we would like to do the Poly when they are old enough to be by themselves for a few hours a day. (Thinking teen years here).

Basically, it comes down to what you really need as a family to enjoy your vacation. I hope my book here helped. :flower3:

Thanks so much Alice!!! that was what I was looking for :) i think we may end up staying where we are for now. Hopefully, we'll make it a annual or semi annual trip with the right planning and we'll make it to a deluxe one day :)

I am having the exact same debate right now. My kids will be 4,5 and 8 months on our trip. debating between aoa and akl/blt.

The above listed reasons by the previous poster are good reasons for aoa. My middle dd loves ariel and if the lm rooms were suites i would do it in a second.

would love to hear what u decide!

For us the choice would be easy - deluxe since that is where we always stay. We love the Epcot resorts and have stayed at the BWVs and BCVs for well over 10 years now. We have also been to the YC. We will be returning to the BCVs in Jan. For us the easy access to two parks and all the restaurants in the area can't be beat. We have also stayed at all of the resorts on the monorail and if the MK is where you would be spending a lot of time that would be another option. The room in the villas - size of the bathrooms, having the kitchen for snacks, drinks and quick breakfasts, and the inroom washer/dryer in a 1 bedroom and larger can't be beat.

Another opinion for you - My family has never stayed in a value resort so I can't comment on them; However, we have stayed at the Poly a number of times. Our first trip with our kids they were 5, 2.5 and 18mo. They are now 10, 7.5 and 6 and they still LOVE the Poly. They ask to go back there every time we go to WDW. The amount of space in the room is great for us - we have never felt too crowded. We are one of those people that spend a lot of time at our resort. We love the pool, relaxing on the balcony/patio, walking around the resort... so we are at the resort a great deal.

We love watching the fireworks from the beach and the resort itself never feels too crowded. The monorail is also a plus for us. We usually have our car, but the monorail makes it so easy to get around.

I'm sure the AoA resort is wonderful and the theme is probably a lot of fun, but if you want to give a deluxe resort a try, I don't think you or your kids will be disappointed. You just need to decided what is the most important thing for your family (decor, location, price) and go with it. I promise your kids will have an amazing vacation without disappointment!. Enjoy your trip!

Alice, what an excellent comparison!

We had the same decision to make. We started out booked at the Poly because I thought it would please everyone. When we had the opportunity to extend our vacation a bit, I decided to do a split stay and spend 2 nights at AOA Cars at the beginning.

I think we'll love AOA, and I know my kids will be over the moon. The Poly is more for DH and I, but the one thing I'm sure we'll miss is our own bedroom!

This!

Our kids are older. We have stayed at many of the resorts on property in all categories. The idea of having NO PRIVACY for an entire week is NOT a vacation at all for my husband. In fact, he is miserable just thinking about it. Plus, with older kids, two bathrooms is a must. Older kids do not bathe together and run around naked. They need private time in the bathroom.

So, we will pick the suite any day of the week unless we can get our own private room. We have done DVC before, this time we are doing a Lion King suite at AofA. Can't wait!!!

My pref would be Poly. The rooms are large and I'd request a balcony or patio. We loved Tokelau long house, and all rooms there have balcony or patio.

We loved watching wishes on the beach, and Electric Water Parade. Hammocks were nice! Love both Kona and Ohana. Fun volcano pool. The kids I saw loved playing on the beach. And watching the movies on the beach at night.

Transportation was great with monorail or boat to MK, and short walk to TTC for Epcot. Only had to bus to DHS and AK. Never waited over 10 min for bus.
