Deluxe Dining Plan

DVC owners staying at DVC resorts on points can purchase the basic and deluxe dining plans as well as the "wine package." If using points at the Disney collection it used to be the case that you couldn't buy the DDPs but I think that ruled was recently changed...not positive though.

Of course, we can't get the free DDP if staying on points.

No ticket requirement for DVC DDP or deluxeDDP.

...so here's the 'deal':
my DS is staying at OKW with his GF and her dad. Her parents are DVC owners. they already booked OKW for May. Last May, they stayed at SSR for 2 weeks, but after a week, my DS ran out of money [for food], so I had to wire him some. We want to avoid this same situation, so I suggested the meal plan. However, I have never done it (well, only once, during the summer of 2006, but it was free with our ressies at AKL, since we bought 6 -day passes). His GF and her dad do not intend on visiting any of the parks, but my DS still wanted to purchase a 3 or 4-day one. Will that affect anything. Will he be the only person eligible for the Dining Plan since he will be the only one purchasing a park pass?? :confused3

Tickets are irrelevant with a DVC reservation. However, everyone has to be on the DDP or deluxe plan and for every night of the reservation.

Can you give him a credit card?

...give a 21-y-o a credit card while at WDW for 2 weeks

- this is trick question, right??

Not at all. We did that with two of ours. Both were very responsible with purchases (actually one is still in college) and it gave us great comfort that they were covered for emergencies or just unexpected necessities.

And I think we gave the eldest his card when he was 16 since he was driving...gas, emergencies or whatever. The younger one can't drive unfortunately.

...apparently, you've never met my DS......

[...seriously, thanks for the info....:thumbsup2 ]

If they offer free dining this year the deluxe will be only $32? Will they allow this? I am thinking of a vacation the last week of Aug for my finance and I and this would be wonderful!

Thanks
Think of it this way, Disney is already paying for the basic plan of $37.99 a night, the DxDP is 69.99 a night, the difference between the two is $32 a night. So you are only paying for the cost of your upgrade with Disney paying for the basic.

We are staying 7 nights and have the DxDDP. Even if we don't arrive until the evening on our first day, do we still have 3 credits for that day?
You will receive 21 credits total, if your package is for all 7 nights. You can use them however you want. They don't give you 3 credits every day, they give you all the credits at once.

Yes, because that's what I got with the bounce-back promo.

Perhaps you can give him a Visa Gift Card or an American Express gift card { In case you do not know what these are, they are like credit cards with a certain amount of money available on them for spending, you can purchase them on line http://usa.visa.com/personal/cards/prepaid/visa_gift_card.html or http://www10.americanexpress.com/sif/cda/page/0,1641,16130,00.asp } There may be other gift cards available that I am not familar with.

This way he will have money to spend and it is his responsibility to keep track of his spending so he has enough money to last him the trip. The amount that you put on ir will depend on how much he will need for the park passes and food. You can always purchase the park tickets for him ahead of time.

Good Luck!

Hmm.....that really kinda surprises me. The restaurants are so full anyways during free dining that a lot of people that didn't know to make ADRS were turned away. Now planners could be theoretically taking up 3x as much room?

I'll be all over it if they let me. Already booked for September and just waiting to see if free dining becomes available. We've been enough that we don't feel the need to try and do everything anymore. And if it is as hot this year as it was last year I'd welcome another chance to sit in the AC and cool off.

Plus, I was already figuring up how much extra it was going to cost to add appetizers in anyway, cause some of those are the best part of the meal for us.

Hmmm again. May need to look at my ADR wish list and add extra TS ressies when I can hit the 180 day mark. Thanks for the heads up !!

I wonder if some value can also be recognized from the convenience and flexibility of the plan? Our family could really benefit in a couple of years from teens being able to eat when and what they want without worry over not enough credits. I'm sure even the most hungry teenager could get by on a refillable mug, 2 snacks per day, and 3 full course meals!

We are using deluxe plan in a few weeks. I have two ts meals per day planned one day is lunch but the rest are breakfasts. NO 2 credit meals or signature dining. traveling with two teens I plan on reporting when I return. Seems like too much food for me myself. But we will see I may not eat anything on way back driving home.

Could you please tell me what the bounce back promo is?

Thanks:lovestruc

...well, THAT sounds like a good idea....mebbe I can just give him my Disney Rewards card - it has almost $100 on it....

Sorry to be jumping in, but I have a question as well. I am a DVC member and will be booked in a different room category the first day. If I book the deluxe plan, do I get the refillable even it is booked just for one day? And than when I check in again for the next day, for a different room do I get another refillable mug?

We are doing the deluxe plan in May and have booked according to how we prefer to eat.

We have a character/resort breakfast every morning. We have tried the bagles/doughnut route with our kids at Disney before and all we get by 11 AM, is starving kids begging for food. A nice big breakfast of protein keeps everybody happy. Plus, we love them.

We have ADR's for:
Crystal Palace
'Ohana
Cape May cafe (2x's)
Donald breakfast safari
Norway princess
Yacht club galley (or what ever it is called now)

We are doing a few TS lunches:

ESPN-paying cash OOP on arrival day
Yak n Yeti
50's Primetime Cafe
Le Celliar

Our dinner ADR's:

Yachtsman Steakhouse
Cape May Cafe
Rose and Crown
Chefs de France
California Grill
Narcosses
Citricos

The days we don't do TS lunches we plan to use snack credits. McDonalds fry cart, ice cream, etc. We can't wait!
