Going in 38 days :)
All our ADRS are booked. I just think my kiddos are going to be disappointed with bland kids food. Has anyone had luck getting the wait staff to give kids smaller portions of adult meals. For example we are eating at Coral Reef our first night - I know DS6 would love the Orange Ginger Glazed Scottish Salmon instead of plain grilled fish. What would be the chance they would give him a small piece of that???

I doubtthe restaurants would allow it. They don't make smaller portions of adult items and charge children's or reduced prices so I cannot see them letting you use a child's dining credit either. The third party restaurants definitely won't allow it and even at the Disney owned restaurants it seems unlikely.

You might be able to get the orange ginger glaze on the side on the child's fish, but it will depend on the server and the restaurant.

One of the adults in the party could order the salmon and share with your son. Since you're on the deluxe plan all the adults will get an appetizer so there will be additional food. If it's still not enough you could order additional appetizers or side dishes and pay OOP.

Another option if your child prefers adult entrees is to age your child to 10 and get the adult dining plan for him. You would have to also purchase an adult ticket for him to qualify for the dining package, but that can be saved for a future trip. Most likely since you are increasing the total cost of your package you will not have to pay the change fee.

This is a great idea. I'm sure I can make this work... In always super sweet with wait staff - and it usually pays off :) I would think a side of sauce would be fairly easy to obtain.
I'm hesitant to make changes since we just paid off the whole trip. My other son is 9 and this is his last chance as a kid. I keep forgetting that on the Deluxe plan we will get lots of food. I may also be able to convince my mom to eat kids meals since she likes to eat pretty blandly anyway.

We are doing the Deluxe Dining plan this time with our children as well and I am going to make sure I order something my children will like as well and then share with them along with trying to find something they might eat on the kids menu. I have one picky child and one who will eat anything so it makes it a bit hard but as long as I order responsibly I don't see us having a problem. I have also in the past after the meal used a snack credit or a counter service and had the one that did not eat get something they liked better. I also make sure I look at EVERY menu before we book the restaurant and make sure there is something they would eat.

I've scoped out all the menus too. And I've booked a couple buffets for us to make sure the kids can try anything. I'm excited the most about Tusker House. We are just big time foodies and my kids are adventurous eaters.

I also highly suggest Raglan Road at DTD. They have a very extensive kid's menu. My dear niece is an adventurous eater and that was her favorite when we had the deluxe plan.
