Im planning a trip for 6: Myself, husband, 3 "kids" 22, 18 and 15. The youngest 2 are our nieces.

Ive been trying to look at different room options, but it seems like all available rooms for 6 are basically 2 beds and a double sofa. Anything with more space is unavailable for the next year and I cant find pricing. How far in advance to you have to book a 1 bedroom or suite?!! My dates are fairly flexible. Am I better off booking 2 rooms at a resort vs a 1 bedroom? Are the suites way more than 2 rooms, or just a little more :) !! I'm wanting a deluxe resort, anything except AK or Riviera.

We added a 6th person to our December trip and the pickings were slim since 4 of us want our own beds. I finally bit the bullet and rented a WL Cascade Cabin through a DVC rental company. Not cheap but at least half of the rack room rate.

Are you actually a party of 5 but looking at occupancy 6 for the sleeping arrangenments?

What time of year are you going?

In addition to clarifying how many beds you want and how many people you are actually traveling with- how many bathrooms do you want? 5 adults and one bathroom would not be pleasant and numerous 1 bedroom villas/suites are only 1 bathroom, but there are a few with 2. At least with 2 rooms you’d get 2 full bathrooms. If you go the villa/suite route make sure to check the bathroom set-up.

Also, a 1 BR (or larger) would have a washer/dryer as well as a full size refrigerator, where 2 hotel rooms wouldn't.

Sounds like you might want to look into renting a DVC 2BR, or Cabin at Fort Wilderness. Even the regular 1BR mostly fit five people. Availability for DVC rooms is going to be better through renting than through Disney direct. Booking/renting for DVC units begins 11 months in advance, and that is when availability will be best.

If booking direct through Disney, I would be looking at 2 regular hotel rooms.

And re-reading your post…if it’s more space you want (more privacy?) definitely 2BR. Skip the cabins.

Or go with 2 separate hotel rooms. Be aware that they will do their best to put your rooms close together if you request in advance but there are no guarantees.

The DVC 2BR will get you a master bedroom, a second bedroom with 2 queen beds, and a sofa or Murphy bed in the living room (and usually an extra single fold down bed under the TV as well.) 2 full bathrooms (or 3 at Bay Lake Tower and AK), washer/dryer, and a full size kitchen.

I would do two rooms. We’ve done Yacht Club and Poly with 6 people in two rooms. We’ve always gotten adjoining rooms, although I know it’s not a guarantee. This way we’ve been able to share bathrooms if necessary and there is the pull down bed of one of the younger girls is okay with sleeping there.

I would either do 2 rooms or a 2 bedroom villa at a DVC resort. The 2 bedroom villas are better priced than suites and have washer/dryer units and full kitchens.

Once upon a time, we did a family trip with our three daughters to Disney. I debated between a one bedroom deluxe (I really wanted to stay at the Beach Club) and two bedrooms at the French Quarters. I went with the French Quarters, but the entire trip it was in the back of my mind how nice it would have been at the Beach Club. The next trip, we did a one bedroom at the Beach Club. Lesson learned. Although the Beach Club was nice-the kids loved the pool, the atmosphere was great, honestly, I looked at the room one day and thought-it's just a room. And, a bit of a cramped room with five people. At French Quarters, we had two bathrooms, and the girls had their own space to spread out.

Naturally, if you can do two deluxe rooms that would be great, but if you don't want to spend the money, I would go with two moderate rooms. Put the girls in one room and you and your husband in the other.

I have occasionally looked at renting points, getting a one- or two-bedroom villa, etc but (to me) it is too pricey, and the rooms don't offer that much extra space. Just my opinion.

We did a 2BR at Bay Lake Towers for our big family trip last year and it was absolutely perfect. One BR had two queens, the other a king...plus there was a sleep chair in the living room (we didn't need it). Full kitchen, THREE full baths, and a gorgeous view of the MK. Easy for our granddaughter to get a quick afternoon nap while one of the adults could relax in the living room. Quick walk to the MK or monorail to get over to Epcot.

Last month we did a 2br at OKW for our extended family of 5. It was perfect and those rooms are ENORMOUS! Agree with others to look into renting DVC for 2-br or book 2 separate rooms and request adjoining.
