Delta's Maddening Policy

Does anyone else find Delta's policies frustrating? We are flying from Columbus, OH to New York (La Guardia) over spring break. I purchased the non-refundable tickets about two weeks ago. The flights are now down to less than $100 round trip!!! To get this lower fare, I would have to pay a $150 change fee (which would not make sense!!) How I love Southwest!! If the fare goes down, you get the credit!!

In their defense non refundable means non refundable. It also means changes are not allowed without a fee. It's all in the fine print.

Then why didn't you book with Southwest? They fly from Columbus to LaGuardia.

It may be maddening to you. But nonrefundable tickets are always a gamble. You lost this time. But be glad if they tickets had gone up, they wouldn't be calling you to pay the difference.

A far more annoying thing about Delta is that they change their flight times CONSTANTLY. The last 4-5 times I flew with them, they changed my flight times at least once (and as much as 3 times) before I actually got on the plane. And sometimes those new times are NOT convenient. (hence why I stopped flying Delta ;))

Southwest doesn't fly direct.

Well then you made the choice to take direct over the ability to get the best price. Its not Delta that gave you frustration...its your choice that gave you the frustration.

You ain't kidding! I'm a travel agent and DL changes it's more than any other airline. I've had customers that have had 5 schedule changes from the time they booked until the time they actually flew.

As for getting a voucher for the lower fare, the legacy airlines used to do that but starting about 2 years ago, one by one they all changed it and now charge the $150 change fee before allowing the rest to go on a voucher. United was the last hold out, but they changed their policy last spring, I think.

It is frustrating, but a previous poster was right in saying that they don't call you when they mark those flights up. THANK GOD!

But with that said, we flew NWA last year and our flight prices changed by like $200 a ticket and I contacted them because I wanted to keep all the times the same and they did the change for a $50 change fee and then they gave us vouchers to use for the $150, which worked out great to go to Florida.

Happened to me more than once. THEY can make all the changes THEY want but we are held to the "contract". Don't get me started about the new luggage fees and how they allow people to cram HUGE size luggage in the carry on overhead. Flying is so stressful now.

OP - Hope you have an awesome trip!

THEY change a lot of the flights...it is maddening!! We even had them change our flight home from Florida when we were already there, so we didn't get the e-mail and missed our flight!

Airfare is always a gamble. Sometimes you wait and pay twice as much.

That's why we switched to Southwest. One of our trips they changed out flight TWICE. Once they told us about and the other I found out about a few weeks before leaving when I called to check the status. SW is MUCH better all around and will credit you for the difference and you can use it at another time.

Thats one reason we drive to PHL to fly SW, it is not our closest airport.

I used to use Delta alot, esp. when they flew many direct flights EWR(Newark) to MCO. (I LOVED Delta SONG!) Now, I never fly them, I used up all my miles, I am done.
