Delta's grandfathered 2nd bag

for people who purchased a Delta ticket BEFORE they started charging for a second bag......did you have any problem at the airport. Did they try to charge you for it?

Leaving on Saturday and we should be entitled to 2 checked bags each.....

Do they measure your bag with a tape measure....I know sounds strange to ask....my suitcase keeps coming in under the required measurements but I keep measuring it anyway.......

Remember, they don't want to issue refunds. This is a way for them to comply with DOT law and still have a chance of keeping some of the collected revenue from those passengers who are unaware of the refund program or forget to file a claim.

Wow....my reservations were made the 2nd week of last November....they should just let us bring our bags.....this whole thing is making me nuts....

Instead of our usual 7 checked bags and 1 carry on (for 6 people) they are going to wind up with 6 checked bags and 4 carry ons.......what are they gaining from me by doing this....

Looks to me like you shouldn't have to pay for any bags as long as all six people have tickets and as long as the suitcases comply with size/weight.

My husband and I also bring one suitcase each. When we go to Disney, I'm going on vacation and don't cook or do laundry. We usually go for 7-8 days and normally take two changes of clothes a day for each of us. I'm not going to dinner in clothes that I put on a 7:00 in the morning! We're DVC members and if it's just the two of us, we normally get a studio.

Hi CarolA.....I know it drive a lot of people crazy on the transportation board to here of people taking so much stuff with them on vacation. I have 4 teenagers.....each one of them has a bag as does my husband and I.

The 7th checked bag was our rolling cooler bag that does us the dual purpose of carrying all of our toiletries (liquids) and pool items. Then we would also use this to bring our lunches to a few parks and also in any hotel room we stayed in that either charged for a refrigerator or did not have one. Now they want to charge me to bring that 7th checked bag and since it has all of our things that we cannot carryon ..... liquids and such.....I need to break that up into our other bags.

This means I cant fit our twin air mattress....yes maybe my kids ARE spoiled but we DO NOT Force them to sleep together....we bring this air mattress that was bought specifically for this purpose (I do not want to waste my time shopping down there).....this becomes carry on #1.

Carry on #2 will contain the other items from the rolling cooler bag.....the goggles, the water cameras, and also our reusable mugs from US and Seaworld.......yes I DO bring them back.

Carry on #3 is my usual bag with our cameras/video equipment, pal mickey, my passporter and all important documents.

Carry on #4 will carry.......another duffle bag...the one I always toss into my suitcase to have just in case our souveniers do not fit or weigh too much for our regular luggage........and whatever else wont fit into my suitcase because of the air mattress.

There are 6 of us....we are going for 15 days.....I do not want to constantly do laundry (although I will - in the condo - using the Purex tablets that I am packing).......

I guess 10 bags sounds excessive........

I know what you are saying about selling the space in the belly .... I thought they also went by weight.....and to my family.....we are just "moving" our stuff from one area to another - thats what I meant by what they are gaining by making us do this.......

I didnt think I was part of the problem.......I always stick to what I am allowed.

Have you looked into Owners Locker? You could just leave about half that stuff there!

I totally understand that 4 teenagers carry alot of stuff! I personally do not think you are taking so much extra stuff for 6 pp x 15 days! I am also flying Delta in Jan. and there will be five of us and we will take 5 bags plus misc. carryons and we are staying 10 days in a home with washer/dryer

I have a family member flying Delta, and I bought her ticket in march before all this started, so she is allowed two pieces. I called them and asked about it. They told me you could just get a refund later or go to the ticket counter, talk to an agent and when they varify that you purchased prior to the change you don't have to pay. We fly alaska and we also are allowed 2 check ins. I have talked to them also. You should not have any problems.
