Delta Schedule Change: Should I try for an earlier flight?

The other day, I received an email from Delta saying that our flight departure time had changed. The arrival time of 1:30pm had not changed. It also gave me the option of changing flights since they had made the schedule change.

There are two flights arriving earlier than we're currently scheduled. One flight arrives at 11:30am and the other arrives at 12:30pm. I'd really like to get to MCO a couple of hours earlier, but I'm afraid I'll get bumped from my confirmed status.

Has anyone ever been successful at getting an earlier flight due to Delta's schedule changes?

You could try. I got a change when our departure from Orlando changed by about 50 minutes earlier (12:40pm to 11:50am). The first time they changed it was about 30 minutes, I called and they said it had to be at least 90 minutes. When they made it another 20 minutes earlier, I called again and said it was just too early and we would have to cancel our breakfast reservations. I had checked the schedule and asked about a 6:30pm flight that was available for the same amount of miles I had used (but not available when I booked it). They changed it with no problem.

I'd call and get the agent to tell you all of the options. We had a flight change with Delta out of Boston a couple of years ago. In our case our direct flight was canceled and the new connecting flight had a 90 minute layover. They let us change flights without issue and we were confirmed with seat assignments.

I checked my April Delta reservation on Tuesday and my layover in LGA was changed from 1 hr to 5 minutes! Obviously, that wasn't going to work and I was easily able to change it. I called them and asked what my options were. I was able to book a flight that leaves PWM almost 2 hours earlier then I was scheduled before. My mom later suggested that I should have researched online to see what was available to me before calling but I chose to just call.

Since I booked my flights early June, my flights have changed at least 3 times. I wonder how many more times they will change :confused3

Yes, start by hand picking preferably two sets of alternate flights including nonstops you would like. Then call and go right into quietly asking for your first choice without first asking what your options are.
, but I'm afraid I'll get bumped from my confirmed status.
Provided you got seat assignments, you chances of being bumped are no greater than being bumped from the replacement or changed flight they first gave you. Even so, I would finish the rebooking conversation and hang up and then do the seat selection on line or in a separate phone conversation.
