We have a suitcase that is a little bigger than the overall allowable dimensions. Does anyone know if we will get charged extra? We are a party of 9 and will only be bringing 1 suitcase per person.

That will depend on the gate agent that you get. They can charge you extra for oversized luggage and if it is that big, you may end up being overweight as well. Unfortunately, they give you no credit for having fewer bags. Can you take 2 smaller bags instead?

Yes I can take 2 smaller ones but I don't have them so I'd have to purchase them. I'm wondering if it would be cheaper to buy 2 or pay the fee.I know it won't be heavier. How do you measure the dimensions? do you include the handles and wheels. If I measure every inch I get 30x21x12 which equals 63" diameter and they told me not over 62

If you buy the luggage, you will have it for the next trip (:D I'm always looking forward to the next trip) If you pay the fee, you will have to pay it next time:(

Just a thought!

Better to be safe than sorry.

Buy smaller luggage. I heard all airlines are charging now for anything over 170 lbs. or 62" (L x W x H).:p

disneywith6kids,

For my own curiosity, I checked the Delta website, under FAQ-Luggage. If your luggage is over 70 pounds or 62" (length+width+height), the charge is $80 each way. Since your bag is so very close to the limit, you may or may not be charged, depending on the whim of the gate agent. But, if you are charged, that is $160 round trip. Ouch! I'd rather spend the money on new luggage.

I just ordered new luggage and didn't even THINK about the size... but I added it up and it's only 57" so I think I'm safe. Thank goodness I didn't order the 30" like I was going to and just settled for the 26"
