I just received an itinerary change email from delta (always a nerve-wracking thing) -
so it turns out that our flight is a bit earlier - no biggie, but they also changed our seats to the most insane seats i've ever seen...
4 seats scattered hither thither and yon

so i quickly went online to see what was up...perhaps i'd be able to find us 4 seats together somewhere on the plane...or at least two and two...

so i get into the seat plan and what do i see....tons of seats together all over the place....huh???? so why did we get seats scattered about?

it appears they changed equipment (to a newer plane) so people's seats had to be changed....but i guess they have a stupid software program that doesn't know how to move people in groups.....seems obvious that they should, but our reservation was in a group of 4, yet we were clearly moved individually....

but why scattered all over...i saw complete rows that were empty!! and even closer to the front!!!

so i quickly moved us up so that we're sitting all together (A, B, C and across the aisle in D)...

what is WRONG with delta that they would assign seats that way??????????

probably i was the first person on the flight to correct what delta had done (since everyone in america is still sleeping - this is for an internal flight from orlando to detroit)....so that's lucky!!!

anyway, all's well that ends well!! :wizard:

What a crazy system but good you got it sorted.:thumbsup2

It's a shame that you really have to have your wits about you when travelling with Delta though isn't it?

I am really reluctant to book with them again as last time we had similar hassles every few weeks with chopping and changing times/planes/seats and it would need to be a massive saving for me to book with them.

they're insane!! i don't understand their system at all..

fortunately, i have an iphone and fortunately, i'm obsessive enough to check it all the time, even when i'm lying in bed when i've just woken up in the morning...
which is when i saw that email....and those stupid seats....
i couldn't believe what i was reading...each seat was in a different row and on either sides of the plane....no rhyme or reason...

so i raced downstairs to my computer, certain that i would find a packed plane with just odd seats here and there....
the plane wasn't even half full!!!!!!
so i was able to move us up to right in the middle of the wing with a complete row just to us...

this was only for a 3 hour flight...imagine if they did that to you on a trans-atlantic flight!!

we have one other flight with them, another internal from detroit to New York...but that flight is on a little toy plane, so i already hate that flight..

the transatlantic flights themselves are pretty comfortable...but the ground staff can be challenging...

They will not allow kids in exit row seats, if you are not prepared to help others and you are sat in those rows you will be asked to move elsewhere. We too keep getting changes sent to us but you do have the right to change your booking if it's an enforced change that is not suitable for your needs. Please remember Delta Gold Club members can bump you out if seats when they get loyalty "upgrades" too, it's something offered to frequent flyers / passengers regularly flying long haul and business passengers. You should still be able to select seats together if there's availability showing, as long as you can log in.

i now realize i made a mistake when i booked this flight..
i should have booked at least one seat in first class to get free luggage..

now we'll have to pay for all of our luggage (first class gets 3 free suitcases - and 32 kg each)...
economy has to pay for all luggage and it has to be 22 kg...
and if it's over 22 kg, the penalty is an additional $90 (on top of the $25/fee for the first bag)..

so had i booked first class for one seat, we would have 3 free bags - large bags...arggghh...

well worth the extra $120 for the first class seat....stupid me..

i called to try to upgrade one of the seats, but i would have to buy a completely new ticket... $279, plus the $138 i already paid for the ticket...

i wasn't thinking when i bought these...

International passengers have the baggage price included, one hold bag (22kg) one carry on and a personal item per passenger. Stop panicking.

the flight i'm referring to is an internal only flight - having nothing to do with our international flights..
i bought these tickets separately....
on domestic only flights, economy pays for all luggage, including the first piece... :sad2:

what you say is true on our two internal flights that are connected with our international flights....
however, this flight is completely independent...a one way flight booked from orlando to detroit, having nothing to do with the rest of our flights..
and so, alas, on that flight we must pay for our luggage like all the other passengers...

Shoot!' I see your problem now, it isn't good. Our internal legs in our journeys are included as they were all booked at the same time.

Sorry to hijack your thread Beth, but...

We are travelling with Delta this year for the first time, economy comfort.

We are:

London to Boston
Boston to Orlando (2 day stop over)
Orlando to New York (17 days stop over)
New York to London (5 days stop over)

Looking at our itinerary it states that on all our legs our Carry on and First Case is Free, I'm not complaining but I was under the impression I would have to pay for my luggage on the internal flights.

Should I just take the confirmation with me or is it simply because they have tagged all my flights together?

Annette:)

it's all part of one ticket, so you should be good...
but in any case, i would definitely take the confirmation with you...
anything in writing is always good to have just in case...

my problem is that one flight isn't part of the rest of my ticket...
i purchased it separately several months after i purchased the other legs of our trip..

Delta moved up our flight by 2 hours but it looked like from the numbers we are all sitting together. I will have to check.
