Hi all -
Just noticed on the Delta site that their airfare from Syr to Orlando has been reduced to $148 round trip - we paid $219 in January.

My question is this - has anyone had experience with Delta allowing them to change their reservations to reflect the current price or with getting a refund or credit ?? I'd like to know how to go about doing this and what I should say to them to get them to reduce my fare.

Thanks a lot -

I fly Song and when the fars drop I'll call them. I get charged a $25 fee per ticket though and then I get a voucher for future use. I have used the voucher with no problems though. So, if you are going to save more than $25, and it sure looks like you are, I would call them and change and get a voucher.

As that thread indicates, you'll often be charged a change fee when switching fares, and sometimes it isn't worth doing so because the change fee is as large as or larger than the difference in fare.

Give the airline a call, see what their practice is. I most often use Midwest Airlines and their fares just dropped quite a bit. I called and received a voucher for about $40 for a previously booked flight. I did the same with United early this year, about $15. Both airlines, no charge. I did have a fare booked on American some months back, their fare dropped, I called, they wanted $100 fee to voucher about $25 reduction. Obviously, I did not do that one.

When are you flying? I just checked my fare and it's still at $208 8/31-9/5. USAirways didn't charge us a change ticket fee, but I have never done it with Delta. We usually fly out of Binghamton, and fares only go up! We ended up going out of SYR this time because the times were better and the fare over $150 less than BGM. The BGM aiport is only about 10 minutes from our house so I hate to drive up to Syracuse. The only consolation is stopping at the Columbus bakery for a nice fresh flat of bread...yum!

Dleta's change fee was recently reduced to $50 per ticket. Given the price differential, it lookks to be worth it. You can do it on-line if you have a PIN set up with your SkyMiles number. Otherwise, give them a call (tho I find the on-line access far easier than talking to their overseas call centre).

Good luck!

I'm flying 10/23 home on 10/28. Oh yes, Columbus bread is definitely worth a trip to Syracuse ::yes:: Best darned Italian bread around !

Has anyone had any luck getting them to reduct the rate without the change fee of $50?
I bought two tickets for Dec on Sunday at $208 each and then Wed am they are $148 each....talk about being mad.
I called and spoke to two different people and they kept saying they can change it BUT it would cost $50 per ticket to do. Well it dropped $60 and they want $50 of it so why bother.

ANyone else have different results. I am so ready to keep at them .

The airlines are losing thier shirts... The ability to waive those fees has been severly restircted by management. THis is a risk you take when you buy a non-refundable ticket.

Another reason I booked JetBlue vs. Delta my next two trips. I just saved $60 for my next trip and it's in my Jetblue acct as a credit. Last trip I used Song and experienced the same issue - no negotiation of "change fee". Delta used to give you a voucher for the difference, no change fee. I don't comprehend a change fee since you aren't changing your flight numbers but they get you because your fare type changed).

For all of you that feel you should get money back if the price drops how would you feel if the airline charged you if the price went up?

Okay, guess I'll quit here cause now I'm getting flamed for making a simple inquiry. Sorry, all I wanted to do was save a bit of money if I could. Asking a bit of advice, that's all. Thought that was what this board was for.

Thanks everyone for the helpful advice. After checking, I realized that the reduced fares were on the evening flights anyway so I'll just keep what I have.

I wasn't flaming but trying to understand. When I buy my ticket I don't look at the fares after that.
