Delta changed itinerary....

It's not a HUGE change, but they moved our morning flight from Columbus to Atlanta to a Chataqua puddle jumper (the kind with the one seat on the right and two on the left). It's a 50 seater plane, and that kind of plane is going to give me hella anxiety. I haven't flown delta before, and am wondering if they will change our flight to a different one and if it will cost extra? If it's extra maybe I can get a xanax script from my doctor, but I'd much rather switch.

If the only change is an equipment swap, you don't qualify for a free change. Delta charges $200 for a domestic ticket change, plus any increase in ticket charge for the new flight. That would buy a lot of Xanax!

I fly Delta a lot. This kind of flight change may qualify you to change/cancel your flights. Before you call them, take a look at the alternative flights from your airport to MCO (perhaps not through ATL) and identify the best option for you.

The American Airlines Embraer jets used from my home airport to Chicago also have that seating configuration. They're not little prop planes like the Com-Air flight I took in 1986 with ~ 13 seats total! They're fine.

:confused3

You can change or cancel your flight for any reason, you just can't do it for free. It's possible Delta will allow a free change, but that would be an exception to policy.

Agree with the first part of your statement. However, in the case of equipment changes, its been my experience that Delta will waive the change fee.

I looked at their schedule (Oct 13?), the EMB is going to Detroit or Raleigh, connecting to Orlando. They have other flights on full size jets through Atlanta, I would call and ask to be switched. I've flown on them before, they are jets and fly pretty much the same but they are cramped. If it is going to Detroit, it would be a really short flight.

And the sad part. Those little planes are probably safer then the big jet OP wanted on..... But folks are convinced otherwise.

I'm not convinced, it's just what I prefer for myself. I have claustrophobia to begin with, and adding an even smaller plane throws me into anxiety.

I called Delta and explained my situation. They changed our plane for $39. :thumbsup2 Thanks for the replies everyone!

Glad it worked out for you.

The concern I have about small plane safety is the pilots tend to be less experienced. Look at the crash in Buffalo, that was a 50 seat turboprop and the pilots were inexperienced to fly in icy weather and did the opposite of what they should have.

True, but you are putting your life in the hands of the pilots when you go on any flight. Anything could happen at any time.
