Delta CEO gives up seat on flight to accommodate more standby passengers

I don't think he actually got off the plane and delayed anything; rather, he sat in the cockpit jump seat.
 
Frankly, I'd expect any airline employee to do the same. Certainly, it was a nice gesture and he didn't make it a "grandstand" move, BUT remember it was just in the last week or 2 that Delta was fined by the government for their excessive overbooking and failure to inform fliers of their rights to compensation if bumped from their flight.

Yes. Why is this a big deal? It's the least he could do.
 

Maybe because it is the opposite of the Spirit CEO's view is?

And airline employees can't always give up their seats. If they are needed in the next city to get a flight staffed it is better overall to bump one passenger then have 200 or so stuck waiting on a crew
