I am wondering if anyone knows the demensions for the luggage that can be put under the seat. I have found the demensions for the over head but not the under the seat. I would like to get something with wheels for either both of these or at least the overhead and have the other one ride piggy back.
Any suggestions would be appreciated! I am tired of trying to carry heavy luggage. Thanks for any input you can give me.:confused3

You can have 1 carryon and 1 personal item. They don't publish specific measurements for the personal item, just a description. These items should fit under any seat. If you are looking at a piece of "luggage", it is probably too big for a personal item.

Approved Personal Carry-on Items
1 purse, briefcase, camera bag, or diaper bag;
or 1 laptop computer (computers cannot be checked and must be carried on);
or 1 item of a similar or smaller size to those listed above.

As pp said, a piece of luggage won't fit under the seat. The wheeled carry-ons definitely have to go above. As far as under the seat, a large tote bag will fit (I carry a large Vera Bradley bag), a backpack will fit, a small duffle bag would fit. Just remember, even any of these listed will take away from your leg room since you won't be able to put your feet under the seat in front of you.

I can put a backpack underneath the seat, or a largish tote bag. You can't fit anything really sizable underneath that seat. I figure it's about 10'' high, 12/14'' wide and about 12'' deep. And, it has to fit completely underneath the seat..nothing can hang out into the foot space.

Airlines don't publish under seat measurements; it would be too complicated, as the dimensions differ according to the aircraft type and whether you are in the aisle, middle or window seat. Often much of the space is taken up by airplane equipment boxes. Usually the middle seat has the most underseat space, at least on the planes I fly. You can almost always fit a book bag sized backpack, a medium sized laptop bag, or a medium sized purse.

Middle seats have a lot less room under the seat for planes that have video screens.

I have an underseat bag with wheels (from QVC) - but because its dimensions are so different from the typical rollaboard, it's awkward trying to roll both bags at the same time and manage anything else.

Easier would be a bag bungee that lets you attach your personal item to your rollaboard even when the latter doesn't have its own strap for that.
