Delta asking for ID# 6 weeks prior to flight

The TSA Secure Flight program requires airlines to collect this information from passengers (for all flights, not just international flights). See http://www.tsa.gov/stakeholders/secure-flight-program.

Delta should have collected the information and relayed it to TSA at the time of booking. Presumably there was a glitch of some kind and it failed to do so. If that's the case, ignoring Delta's request to provide it again won't end well, since Delta won't be able to issue the passenger a boarding pass until it is.

Drivers License is not on the list.

When passengers travel, they are required to provide the following Secure Flight Passenger Data (SFPD) to the airline:
Name (as it appears on government-issued ID the passenger plans to use when traveling)
Date of Birth
Gender
Redress Number (if applicable)

It is not a scam. The airlines are all starting to ask you to supply secure passenger data. I don't see what the big deal is.

She and I don't think it is a scam either. But she already supplied that information when she bought the ticket. We don't understand why they need the same info. again unless as someone else mentioned, there was a glitch and they lost it.

We keep putting so much of our personal information out there, it is very unsettling, at least to me.

And no, they did not ask for the DL#. I jumped to that conclusion as she was telling me about it. She has not called about it yet as she has until 75 hours before her flight to supply the information. Yep, 75 hours - not 72. What an odd number!

There is no privacy of your personal information. Sadly, we must get permission from the federal government to travel by air.

The government already has your information in social security records, name and DOB. By supplying it with your airline reservation, they can prescreen the flight lists for those who may need additional screening. It used to be they just went by name and many people were getting pulled because they had the same name as someone on the watch list, this cuts down on that. Nothing to do with permission.

There was no glitch. They didn't lose her information. I'm not sure why providing an airline with your full name as it appears on a government issued id equals a loss of privacy :confused3

The airlines are starting to require that the name on your id matches exactly the name on your ticket, due to TSA requirements. Start getting used to it.

If you feel this is an invasion of your privacy, there are other travel options.

She said that her DD did already give the info when buying her ticket. So obviously something WAS lost.

She already did provide them with her full name as it appears on a government issued ID, along with her gender and DOB. We are aware of the TSA requirements so that is why she did it correctly the first time. Why would she need to submit it again? Every time data is sent, there is the chance it could be hacked, stolen, whatever.

Persons can , and are, denied permission to fly based on government data bases.

The airline loves this TSA requirement. It prevents you from giving or selling a ticket you are unable to use . . . It's another source of revenue for the airline.

How many years has it been since you could fly on using an airline ticket not in your name? Long before the creation of the TSA!

I am puzzled as to why having to provide your full name twice to an airline is such a big deal. Really?

The airline had to take the responsibility for their revenue protecting policy decision then and could not pass the blame or claim that it's a safety requirement.

I've had to put this information in for the last couple years. No, I don't think anything was "lost" and there was no "glitch" in the system. I personally think it's two different databases. One is kept in Delta's system for ticketing, and the other one is gathered by Delta (and presumably other airlines), and then passed along to TSA.

So, "inefficient"? Absolutely. "Stolen or Lost information"? No.
