Deliberately starting a flame?

Do any of you posters find that once in a while a particular poster will throw in a nasty post to start an argument? This is so frustrating and annoying.

How do you long-time members deal with this type of behaviour? Ignore It? Scream Back? I'd like to say I would just ignore them, but I've seen a couple of nasty threads where I feel like giving my 2 cents...is it really worth it though?

I argue sports a lot and start a bunch im sure, but I just do it for the shear fun of arguing.

There are a few (very, very few) posters on here that when I see their screen name I think . A lot of times the and flamers are the same people over and over again. I just consider the source, take a deep breath, and move on...

I don't think people do it purposely...just that everyone's opinions and views are different. some people just don't understand that just because someone's opinion is different than theirs it's just an opinon!

Actually I'm not starting a flame thread at all. I was just curious if, for the most part, people just ignore "flamagrams."

I had asked a question on another board and no one flamed me, actually posters were super nice. I was reading through some other threads and people were actually being really mean and downright rude to some posters. I just thought, since this is a Disney board (planning fun and such) , that "everyone" would be excited about their upcoming trips. Although, admittedly, DH and I were laughing at some of the smilie reactions. Especially this one

Some people will try to stir the pot. However, some posters that are viewed as "mean" are just being honest.

For example, someone may start a thread about having a hard time paying their bills. Then in their signature have an upcoming trip with a stay at the GF.

This person will get post after post with suggestions on how to find money to pay the bills. As soon as someone post that maybe the GF trip should be canceled, they are flamed for being a "mean".

I can usually read the title of the thread and decide if it's too "hot" for me. I won't even bother clicking on it because I don't like reading all the negative and sometimes a bit rude comments. Certain topics I've just learned to "skip". I enjoy the positive threads that make you smile and the informative threads that I can learn tips and information from. I've never been much for debate, but I do love a good discussion.
I agree with an above poster there are some posters that are just more strongly opinionated than others and you'll learn which ones and take their post for what they're worth. Ignoring is the best tactic in my opinion.

Ahhh...I see what you mean now. That is a little contradictory. Guess I haven't posted long enough. I've noticed one of the most "hot" topics is related to courtesy (or lack thereof) in the parks. I guess we all have our own ideas/opinions about courtesy. I really like the boards though and thoroughly enjoy reading the posts (most are good). I can't even count how many wonderful ideas have come from this site and I'm so thankful for all the great posters!

Oh, you've seen nothing until you read a thread involving children.

The best thing to do, is just ignore it. If they're trolling - and I do think there are posters on here who for the most part are on the up and up, but tend to stir the pot deliberately - you're feeding into it if you respond.

You'll find most people on here to be nice and helpful, but there are a few trolls (at least in my opinion), as well as the pot stirers, followed by their close cousin, the attention seeker. Then you have your rare anonymous spill-their-guts poster, which usually attracts the above-mentioned posters.

And then there's me. I'm perfect.

I just ignore it. I can think of a Diser or two that seems to love the heat, so they start threads that in my own humble opinion should never be started. I come to the Dis boards and WDW to escape that kind of inflammatory stuff, I have to live it in the real world I try not to contaminate my Dis world with it.
Again this is JMOHO, not saying anybody is right/wrong.

Honesty isn't always appreciated, no, oddly enough, are "differing" opinions, which is true of many message boards. No room for debate, my way or the highway!

I REALLY try not to fall for those things but occasionally one will catch my eye and I HAVE to put my two cents worth in! I do LOVE it when a moderator jumps in and kills a thread like that It's hard to believe that people start those threads ON PURPOSE! they know that they will suck some people into it. I solomly promise NOT to read any more of those threads! Helen

seen it? Seems every thread I read lately..no matter the topic someone has to start an argument. Then there are the threads that are started JUST to cause argument. Lately I find I am abandoning threads that were topics i was interested in cause someone has to pipe up and

Yup, me, too. Some seem to start out nice and informative, then for some reason turn really nasty. I unsubscribe so I don't have to 'listen' to it.

I've seen a few where the OP is looking for a fight, and for some reason there are always plenty of people to bite on it.

Some are really funny though. There was one awhile back that started out very inflammatory, and when people suggested that the OP was a kid trying to stir up trouble, he said something along the lines that he was the CEO of a Fortune 500 company and earned a million a year in salary. Only problem was the post was so full of teen-speak and horrible spelling, it was pretty obvious...
