Hi,

When I logged in tonight I saw that I hadn't been here in over thirteen months. I wondered if my screen name and password would still work. (They do.)

On my seven solo trips (the last in 2007), I did nearly everything. I ate table service meals at nearly every restaurant, even @ California Grill. But I won't do Victoria & Albert's or San Angel Inn solo. I think they're intended to be romantic spots for couples; as I have been alone for 2.5 years I would feel conspicuous.

i would not do dumbo as a solo adult! it's just wiered for me to ride it alone, and i would rather skip it then go on it

i have traveled quite a lot on my own, had meals in strange towns at fancy restaurants by myself--never had a problem. but last month i rode Dinosaur alone--my first time in AK (and Disney) and I didn't like it! i wished i had someone to hold on to, as i found it a bit terrifying. and yes, i realize small children ride it! i had no idea i was such a wuss. other than that (and i'd try it again in a heartbeat) i'd say no, there's nothing i wouldn't do alone that i'd do with others. in fact, quite the opposite. you can do so much more when you are by yourself!

I have been to WDW 4 times solo and have enjoyed it as much if not more than the family trips. I have just about done it all solo, from eating at Victoria & Alberts to miniature golf, to Halloween/Christmas parties, all rides, even the carriage ride at PO resorts, and everything else in between. The only time I felt out of place, or should I say did not enjoy it as much as I have in the past because I was solo was the Hoop De Doo. Just felt awkwared. Everyone else laughing and having a good time. There I was with my single table on the main floor off to the left side - kinda by myself and all this food piled up in front of me. Service was great and the CM performing did recognize me (guess I kinda stood out like a sore thumb). The luau was fine as well as Ohana's, just the Hoop De Doo did make me feel slightly out of place.

However, go and have a great time and do not give a thought to what other people think, see, or perceive. You are there to have a great time - and think, no one to tell you lets go here, there, or eat here or there. I do think you can do a lot more being solo at WDW. Have a fun and safe trip.

The only issue I've had as a single person was when I went to Universal Studios Islands of Adventure to see Harry Potter World. WWOHP is small and takes less than half a day to see so I wandered around the rest of the park. The Pteranodon Flyers is an awsome ride for two people; but you are REQUIRED to take a child on with you. I couldn't find anyone who had an extra child to spare. :sad2:

I know that it seems weird because I was just as shocked to learn that the amusement park Children's Fairyland, over in Oakland, would not allow my husband and I to visit the amusement park without children. We were disappointed because it has been featured in local television shows and newspapers and looks charming from outside the gate. We wondered if it was an attempt to prevent sex offenders from preying on children. That might be the goal of Universal Studios as well, although I am not familiar with the ride that you were denied.

I don't know what I would skip on a solo trip to Disney World because I really can't imagine myself being there alone.

Seems that a lot of the art of living is about context.

In the context of giant trees made up of carved animals and seven foot high personifications of animation characters, the self consciousness should begin to relax a bit. The one thing that would be verboten to me at a park is to speak harshly to another or act in a rude manner. As a solo, opportunities for that to happen, even accidentally, are almost nil. Pretty much the province of over stressed young families.

The ability to go slow, take time for detail and do as you wish should bring you a level of peace and amusement that will make your solo trip the first of many. Have a great time!

Goingon40 - I have considered going to V&A solo but for some reason thought that it was only for couples...Maybe on my next solo trip :goodvibes

I'm traveling solo in January, and wonder if anyone has experience doing any of the tours as a single. I am considering the "Wild by Design" tour at AK or the "Keys to the Kingdom" at MK..... and lastly "Gardens of the World". Does anyone have any info to share on any of these?

I've done the "Wild by Design" tour solo, as well as the other one at AK, "Backstage Safari" solo. No problem, I didn't feel out of place at all. I'd recommend just picking your favorite park and doing a tour there, whichever one's available on the most convenient day for you. You really can't go wrong with any of them.

I thought I read that the "wild by design" is going away at some point in early 2011-Jan I thought!--Just double check so you dont' get all set on that & then find out it isn't avaialable any more... Hopefully I am wrong, but you know when a little "alarm bell" goes off in the back of your mind....Deb

I did the backstage safari solo -- it was fun. Basically you're walking around and it's a small group, so it doesn't really matter that you're solo. Everybody piles into the van, and some people in our group were a group of 4 or 5 so they had to split up and share seats anyway. Did the Keys to the Kingdom with my sister and it didn't feel all that much different -- would have been easy enough to do solo, except maybe if you feel awkward making conversation with strangers at lunch. But by that point you've already spent two hours together and you can just talk about what you've seen.

As an occasional solo traveller, I used to worry about the appearance of being alone. But then I saw the face of a woman with 6 kids.. trying to excuse her children's (perceived or real, I don't know) behavior and I looked the other way to make her feel better.
I also look the other way at the couples in love.
I hardly think of myself as being judged in any way except "hey, she's an adult and she must love this place to choose to be here today."
Do what you want, when you want!

thanks for all the info and suggestions. I am starting to feel much better about visiting the World on my own, and I do look forward to having a great time... maybe including a visit to one of the spas, and an evening at Cirque du Soleil also.... this may become my favorite way to travel from now on!

Have a great time Ann. I wouldn't assume that you were there alone against your will. Not only are there a lot of people who choose to go to Disney World alone, I would know that you might be the spouse of someone at a convention at Disney World who had decided to make better use of your time than just waiting around while your spouse was in meetings.

Love reading this post! I will be going to DW in Feb. & my bestfriend who will be attending a conference at the Grand Floridian & she invited me to come along.. I'll be there from Wed-Sun but just realized I will be on my own for 2 days...I have never done something like this before. Any helpfull hints and advice is welcomed. I was thinking Epcot one day, possibly MK, or just hanging by the pool which is something I never do!

Thanks ton :worship:

Well I was going to say that I wouldn't do a character meal by myself, mostly because I'm not much into meeting characters anyway. However, I'll be doing exactly that for dinner tonight, so I guess my answer now is that I can't think of anything I wouldn't do.

never n-e-v-e-r slide down one of those water slides at Blizzard Beach nor Typhoon lagoon:upsidedow.

I-F there wud to b an accidental "wardrobe malfunction?":scared1:....

...and to think.....I love to sit on the front row of TOT, love California Screamin', love R&RC, etc..........;). And....I love the level orange side of Mission Space -:woohoo:

Some one posted they would never do "Dumbo" solo and I immediately thought, yeah, I would feel a little odd doing that.. then I remembered.. at Disneyland I rode Casey Junior's Circus Train solo several times.. the only thing I wouldn't do is sit in a "cage" car. No problem riding in the caboose, but a "cage" car just seemed TOO childish

2 years ago I did the "Dolphins in Depth" tour solo and it was awesome. I think that going solo on a tour, you're not alone anyway, so no one is really going to notice. I also did the Crystal Palace Character Breakfast alone because A) I wanted the buffet breakfast, and B) my sister wanted to sleep in. The characters all stopped by and "waved" hello and kept on going.

I have done both Disneyland and WDW solo and loved every second of it. Ive gone on every ride and eaten at several character meals. But they have all been buffets. So I guess I would never do the family style meals alone.

Put me down for having done most things solo -- Small World is my favorite, so that's no problem. I finally did Dumbo, the Carousel and Aladdin solo. I went to Cirque solo. I had my first ever martini at California Grill solo, did HDDR solo (although I did feel a bit self-conscious sitting next to the balcony rail at a table for four).

I was going to start a new thread with the following question but I'll see if I get some replies here.

Part of the Magic Your Way package always includes a free round of miniature golf. I don't especially like miniature golf, but I do like doing things I haven't done before. I saw one person posted that they've done miniature golf solo. Anyone else?

PS I ate at Planet Hollywood solo using the MYW coupon as well.
