You'll be able to watch Illuminations from the Rose & Crown patio even if you don't get an outside table - there is an area for the "inside" diners to come out to view if they wish.

FWIW, when we dined there a couple of years ago, I made no requests when we checked in and were given the next available table. However, we were taken out to an EMPTY patio and were the only family out there for a good 20 minutes before other diners joined us.

Getting a patio table at R & C really is pure "luck of the draw", so to speak. They no longer allow you to request a patio table and wait for it to open. You are required to accept the first table that becomes available for your party size.
We have eaten on the patio 3 times, and while it was really nice and we enjoyed it, there are better views of Illuminations from different spots on the lagoon. We were on the upper patio and the view was parially blocked of the higher fireworks.
I think 8:15 is late to expect a patio table to open. Anyone there at that time will most likely be staying to see Illuminations. I would try checking in earlier and requesting a patio table, but they may ask you to come back 15 minutes before your ADR and then I don't think your chances are very good.

HOPEFULLY is correct. We ate there in Sept and December 09 and they were not allowing people to wait for patio tables .You now take the first table available for your party size.But they do let everyone who wants to step outside to watch

Request it, but don't expect it.

CMs will unofficially TRY to meet your request. However, if they cannot, you will still be allowed to watch from the R&C patio, which is one of the best unobstructed views of the show.

REgardless of where you sit, just let your server know you want to see Illuminations. They'll escort you to a special roped off area for R&C guests. We loved watching Illuminations from there although I've heard there are better spots to watch the show.
