Used for the 1st time last year. Although a small airport appeared well organised.
When we landed (at the same time as another huge UK flight!) the immigration hall was packed, but they had the queue organised and we didn't wait long at all.
Baggage claim smooth - not double baggage claim like Orlando (although I think this has stopped now). Plenty of trolleys about etc.
Collection of hire-care was outside main airport building (Dollar) just across road, again smooth hassle free. Plenty of toilets-clean!

On way home check-in area/hall was very busy. Once through security-quick- waiting area had usual eating/airport selction-burgers etc, we did't eat but food looked OK-area clean etc. We plan lunch there this year. Duty free and a couple of other small shops but not a lot to do - outside area for smoking , TV for kids, which ours seemed to be the only ones watching-Disney Movie if memory serves me correctly.

Hope this helps!

I would use the word limited! It is clean and well organised but considering u will be there for a good few hours there is very little to do, shops wise etc. But as you are going home you don't care you just want to be gone at that point hehe.
Arriving though I agree with the above post, immigration was very busy but organised, obviously it still took time to pass through. Baggage collection was very quick and easy, and the car rental was also nice and quick.
Obv MCO is much nicer, But I'm sure in further years it will expand and there will be more there, I know thats not much help now though hehe.

we flew to sanford last year, and from the minute we landed to driving away in our hire car was 30 minutes, amazing no hangin about, no big deals at immigration, baggage was off as we got off, not like in uk when u have to wait ages, well organised.:thumbsup2

At a guess, because it is a small airport, but very busy, they have to be ultra efficent or the place would reach grind to a halt very quickly.

I agree with most of the above, but be aware the food is very basic. After a holiday where your choice is unlimited it's a bit of a come down! We always have a breakfast/lunch before getting to the airport.

unlike mco which deals with major internal flights,as well as a lot of international flights
Sanford takes mainly charted flights,as such there more geard up to copeing with flight from the uk.they tend to be quicker than mco,so should have no problems, think gatwick v heathrow

We really like Sanford on arrival because it's so easy (and usually fast, too). the drive to WDW takes longer, but is an easy run.

It can be a bit limited as a departure airport, however! The last time we used Sanford we were the last flight out in the evening - the food place had one jacket potato, some fries and some cookies left! It was clear the shops were waiting to close as soon as we'd been called for boarding. However, we've been there for slightly earlier departures and had no problems. :)

On balance, although Orlando International is a much bigger and more impressive airport, we would actually choose to use Sanford (maybe it makes us feel more at home, being used to Cardiff and Bristol! ;) )
