Is it possible to put on hold a two bedroom and pay the 71 points for the studio for now until I know for sure they are coming, then add the additional points?

No you can't do that. You need to either reserve one or the other. You can't "hold" rooms.

What about using two studios instead of one 2BR? That way you can reserve one studio now and one more when you find out you need it.

The only way you can hold onto a two bedroom villa is if you have the points available--MS does not do deposits, you have to "pay" the whole cost ahead of time. If you do have the points, you can always reserve both the two bedroom and the studio, and then cancel one of them later on. Most of us don't have quite that many points! But I think that a two bedroom might be hard to get if you wait--that's a very busy time for DVC'ers, the resorts are usually full, due to the golf matches that are held then.

Thanks for your help!

We will have 6 adults 1 three yr old and 2 infants so I think the 2 bedroom is our best option?

What happens if I rent points from someone, book the two bedroom and then end up not needing all the points, can I sell them, or use them at another time, or am I just out of luck?

Thanks!

On Mar 17th I tried to book a 2BR for the BCV for the week of Oct 11-18. They didn't have any 2BR on the 11th so I went to the VWL for 3 nights and I got the last dedicated 2BR at BCV Oct 14-18. They still had a few lock offs avail on then. I'd book ASAP. You can always get waitlisted and hope someone cancels! Good Luck!

addie:

If you have rental points from someone, then you would have to get that person to cancel the reservation but you could have that person make a new reservation within their use year. Work that out in advance though. The problem might be making your new reservation after the cancelation. There might already be a waitlist and if that's the case, it may be difficult for you.

Or you could just splurge on the 2BR for yourself and relax in all of the space you will have. Sounds to me like you need your in-laws to tell you what they are going to do.

Addie -- I may be reading your post wrong, but it sounds like you are not a member but are planning on trying to rent points for this trip. Remember, when you rent points you are dealing on a case-by-case basis with the person you are renting from. It's not like dealing with a resort who can easily make changes. The person you rent from is really giving you their reservation and they have some restrictions as to when they can cancel and when they can salvage points that you might not use. The firmer you can be in your plans before going ahead and booking, the better for everyone.

PamOKW, yes I am not a member and trying to rent points.

What is a lock off?

A lock-off is basically a studio and a 1 bedroom with an adjoining door. Each room has an outside entry door, as well as the interior connection between the two units.

Addie - with that many people, 6 adults and 3 little ones, you may either want to be at OKW or get a 2 bedroom and a studio, I think it would be very tight if you are putting up at least 2 cribs/porta cribs and having a bed for the 3 year old, plus 6 adults, maybe splurge and get the GV, sounds like you need more room. Also if I read this right, its you and your hubby plus 3 little ones, a stuido in my opinion would be way to small.

That week in October seems to be very popular - I called day by day for a 7 month ressie- 2BR at BCV 11th-15th and on the last day was told I had called just in the nick of time as I got the last 2 BR available for that night. I had had trouble getting through that Monday morning and it was after 10 when I finally connected. If you want to go that week in October you need to make some decisions soon. Good luck with your planning.

I was reading your post and something didn't seem right with your point totals. 71 is correct for a studio but 143 is a 1 bdrm not 2. A 2 bedroom is 189 points for the time yor are looking at.
good Luck with your planning

Basically, you need your in law to commit to going....now or never. If they can't commit, let them know they can join you some other time.

I just booked a studio at BCV without any trouble for late October.....but it does look like other types of accomodations may be in limited supply. Most members have booked their vacations for this time at their home resorts already. And the remaining space is most likely filling quickly since the 7 month reservation window opened up.

One small warning on the lock off accomodations and small children....be careful that a little one doesn't get locked in one of the rooms without an adult and with the security latches done on the outside door (and the balcony door open too!). When my parents stayed with us my mom came out to the kitchen from her studio, left the latches done on the hallway door and the balcony door open...and my 2yo dd went into the room and slammed the door shut! She was locked in and there was no way for us to reach her (short of a ladder to the balcony or taking doors off their hinges) Luckily I was able to talk her through opening the lockoff door (no handle on my side!)...but we already had housekeeping and maintenance rushing to help!
