My mom had to have a procedure done and it was supposed to start at 10, it started at 3 instead. So she was waiting and starving since she could not eat or drink. They gave her a $10 gas gift card because of the delay. We all found it rather amusing to be compensated by the hospital with a Wawa gift card!

Shoulda been a $50. card for Macaroni Grill.

One time Disney lost my luggage and they compensated me with a $250 gift card.

That I understood.

I got more from Disney than your mom did for waiting for her procedure. Seems wrong. :confused3

A few years ago I went to the hospital for an outpatient appointment, the doctor didn't show up. The hospital gave me $25, they were just starting the program and didn't have time to get the gift cards. I thought it was a great idea! :thumbsup2

It's called "Service Recovery" andit's the bain of my existence as a nurse because word gets out that if something minor goes wrong at a hospital (Ie-your test was scheduled at 10am and it was delayed until 1030am) the patient "gets" something...gift card, coffee card etc.

We have patients complaining now if someone looks at them crooked that they deserve a GC.

This happened to my sister at our local hospital. They gave her a $5 gift card to their teeny tiny gift shop. :lmao: And I've only seen that place open a time or two.

Wow, they sat me in a noisy hallway for over 4 hours waiting for my surgery and all I got were some lousy scars!

It's really kind of ridiculous. They were running behind because they had 2 emergencies and they took longer than expected. My mom she would rather be delayed than be the person who was having the emergency.

I waited 9+ hours for surgery in December because I had to be moved from the outpatient center to the Main Hospital OR because I was too high risk and no one bothered to give the anasthesiologist my chart until the morning OF my 7AM surgery! (the head of the department is supposed to review all charts at least 3 days before a surgery) We arrived at the outpatient center at 5:30AM and I had surgery at 4:30PM. The hospital is an hour from our house and I did not bring anything with me to do and I could not have anything to eat or drink. I did have my itouch and DS with me but both were basically dead because we had just gotten home from Disney the night before.

I didn't get anything from the hospital and I did not expect anything from the hospital. I have never heard of a hospital giving gift cards or anything else for that matter for a procedure running late:confused3

Nothing ever runs on time in a hospital.
EP study- doctor was 2 hours late
Brain surgery- doctor was 1 hour late (his previous surgery ran about 20 mins late and he kind of wanted to eat lunch before the 6 hour surgery...I don't blame him...i was his second surgery that day)
Laparoscopy (december surgery)- scheduling issue- 9+ hours

Heck, I have 8 doctors. All of them run between 15 mins-1 hour late. My therpaist routinely runs 15 mins late. Waiting is like required for anything medical related.

Wow. My mom sat in the ER in septic shock for well over 12 hours and all she got for the delay was emergency surgery, 3 weeks in ICU, 7 weeks in the hospital so far(she's still there) another surgery in a few weeks. She should at least get a t-shirt or something:rotfl2: Honestly, I'd love it if they would discount the stupid TV and phone charges. It's $13.50 per day:scared1:

Well, our hospital has signs all over the place "guaranteeing" a person will be seen within a half hour.

They CHARGE you for phone and TV?????? Seriously?

At my hospital it is all renovated private rooms with flat screen TVs (with cable) and phone for free! You get charged for the room. That's it....no extra charges.

Now I would personally love it if you could get a discount on parking. $13.65 everytime I go to the doctors (most of my doctors are in towers attached to the hospital) and NONE of them validate. There are 7 parking lots. Only 2 have validation and very few outpatient services validate. We spend on average $700 a year just on parking!
