Define Commercial renting.

Given the ease of use and prominence of personal websites, I would generally disagree. Under this definition, label me a commercial renter.

Diane's quote was in reference to my defintion. Let the record show that I never mentioned anything about websites. It makes no difference to me or no diference with my defintion concerning the method used to rent.

So those who are using their membership like a business to make a profit (like the people who've pm'd me offering to rent my points for $9 and advertising their own rentals at $11 pp) could be considered commercial in my book. They're not paying any dues on the points they're lowball renting from others and highball renting to others, and they're making a profit of at least $2 per point.

People who are renting their own points can't really be considered a business, and by renting them out at the standard going rate, in addition to paying dues on them, there's really no profit to be made. It's more a matter of covering dues and hopefully recouping a small part of your investment if you can't go one year.

But the whole thing is fuzzy. Kind of like determining whether somebody who has a yard sale, or sells a couple things on ebay is commercial or not. Clearly the Power Sellers who have dozens of similar brand new items listed and take payment through credit card portals of their own are commercial, and just as clearly, (I think), the person with 10 feedbacks selling an old book and a kids' outgrown jacket is not. But at what point is that line crossed? How do you really define it in black and white? I suspect that's part of the trouble.

Personally I think it's so sad when ordinary small users of things - such as ebay and DVC for example - get pushed into the background, forced to pay higher fees, endure tighter regulations, and generally be more inconvenienced because big commercial operators start taking over. But hey, we live in America, right? The land of free enterprise where greed is not only tolerated, it's encouraged. What are ya gonna do???

I would say, booking a busy time on speculation and then selling it on E-Bay. This really irritates me.
