I think this is something we all may struggle with.
Defeating self talk.

you know what I mean?
The " yeah but I ONLY lost one pound" or " I actually GAINED, I cant do this!"
or " Im NEVER going to get this weight off"

How do we defeat the defeating self talk?

Ideas?

I ask myself "How do I feel?" and since I have been doing Atkins I feel wonderful - more energy less aches rarely hungry - and although during the week(s) that I don't lose or not alot I do feel a little disappointed - I just remember HOW GOOD I FEEL! and that I didn't gain all this wgt in a few months so I need to be patient and take the time to get it off for good! ::yes::

PS

It also helps that DH is doing Atkins too!:D

I've thought about this from time to time as I go through my weight loss journey. I call the negative self-talk my "Negative Nelly". She always lurks around every corner when I have some success telling me I don't deserve in some way or another.

Journaling helps me. When I start to write down my feelings and go back and read them and realize how defeating negative self talk is plus comments from my WISH buddies that read my journal help to snap me out of it most of the time.

I would love to hear other techniques to stop the self defeating thoughts that come to my mind sometime.

I compromise with my negative other........" Ill have this choclate cake and jog an extra mile tomorrow.......yea yea......."
Bargins dont work out well for me!@ lol

FOr me, I stop thinking about whatever it is I have stressing and when the time comes, I try and just do the right thing instantly........
for example, Drving to MC dees drive thru for the family...........
the whole way I think and think and think and THINK....................
One time I said dont think about it get your mind off of it......turned up ther radio and when I got to the speaker, the word "salad " just came out of my mouth.........
I regret it a few minutes on the ride home but once I got home had my salad, i was happy with myself.......

Now if I can only apply that to the chocolate cake..........

What a great idea binny! I know for myself I have been struggling with this one for a while. Especially because I spent so much time overweight, and now that I am at goal, I don't feel like I am. I still have that negative talk...."you can't wear that, look at the size of your a--" or when I was struggling with the last 5 pounds, it was REALLY bad, I found I forgot all I did accomplish.
I read a book called "Life is short, wear your party pants" I saw a lot of patterns in my life that were leading me to all my negative self-talk--
rejecting positive, negative comparisons, distortions....I am starting to journal a new way, only positive thoughts. I have found with doing this, recognizing and replacing is really helping me do it right. This book was bout getting into your life and bringing joy, because for me it isn't just about weight loss. I thought if I lost weight, I would be happier, and I found that was just a small part of it!!
Anyway, I'm rambling.....for me, that is really helping me banish the negative talk in my head.::yes::

I'm bad about self defeating talk but I work hard at overcoming my weakness.

I try to say that "I lost one WHOLE pound" instead of just one pound.

I work hard to stay positive :)
