Newbie, ready to join you & take the plunge! I need ALL the help I can get because I have never been good about following guidelines for diets & such.

Here goes...I have started an Atkins type diet on Sunday. I do not own the book yet, would like to purchase from ebay. Tell me which book I should get, please!

I am sure that the book will answer most of my questions but I see that people (lowcarbfriends.com) are using L/F, f/f cream cheeses & such on this plan. Is this recommended? I was under the impression that the fat is what is needed to achieve weight loss. Is this just on induction?

I am 5'3" and weigh 175 lbs. YIKES! I firmly believe that I must incorporate excersize into my life & will be looking into a membership at the "Y" & walking.

My goal weight is 125 lbs, so would like to lose 50 lbs by 01/01/04. I will not put pressure on myself & will be happy with a 10 lb. loss for starters. I want to chip away so I don't get discouraged.

I am considering the WATP videos/dvd's but really want to keep this a low budget as possible.

I have been lurking for a while & am ready to accept my challenge. I love the DIS boards to begin with but you folks here on the WISH board, glo, katholyn & everyone else are a true inspiration & are the friendliest people on the "net".

Okay, point me in the right directions. Let's do it!!!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Hi Joanne! :)

Welcome to WISH! The first post is always the most difficult. Have you looked through the www.atkinscenter.com site? You maybe able to find enough information there to keep from buying the book.

You can do this and we are here when you need us! :)

WELCOME TO WISH, Joanne!!!!!!!!

You can do it! :) This is the BEST place for anyone who wants to lose weight and adopt a healthier lifestyle! You are already pointed in the right direction! :) I love that you are planning to chip away at things (10 pounds at a time). That is a great plan!!!

Walking is awesome. There are lots of people here who love the WATP tapes. Walking outside or on the treadmill is great too!

Hope to see you posting often! I'm sure someone with more information about Atkins will be by soon to give you some more information!!! :)

Thanks Kelsie,

I have spent a ton of time on the Atkinscenter website & it is very helpful. Lurking around here & at the lowcarfriends boards, there seem to be some people who strongly recommend buying the book for Atkins. I just wasn't sure if I would be missing something by just using the website.

I am ready, I will post to the "clippie" link.

By the way, I bought a cheapo scale & it is showing 2lbs just sitting on the floor with nothing on it. I don't see a way to adjust it so I hope it is reliable. I told you I wanted to go low budget, LOL!:p

I have also been drinking TONS of water for about a week now and it is making me feel better already! Even my skin feels softer. :teeth:

Welcome Joanne!
I have the Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution book. I'm not sure if it's the most current. I bought and read it back in the '90s. I'm almost half way through reading it again. It's a great book. It's not all scientific mumbo jumbo. Dr. Atkins' sense of humor comes out in the book and makes it very enjoyable to read, for me.

Good luck to you!! I've been on Atkins since Friday. You can do it!! :)

Hi Ya

I don't Atkins but wanted say hello and welcome.

WELCOME!!! :D So glad you've decided to join us! There are a lot of Atkins WISHers who are great about answering questions when you need help! You'll be glad you joined us!!! Welcome again!

Hi Joanne!! Welcome to the WISH Board!! You will find lots of supportive and encouraging people here along with friendly advice!! :) Glad to have you here! :)

 Joanne!
I'm glad you joined us. I can't say anything else that hasn't been said before yet, so please join us on this journey.

WOOHOOO! :bounce: :bounce: :Pinkbounc - another low carber!!!

If you check on ebay, they have a half price store- I saw Dr. Atkins newest book on there for about 4.50! Not bad. I would suggest getting the book and reading it!

Be ready to post lots. That will help you and us out quite a bit. We're so happy you came to join us! WELCOME!!

Thanks Jody! I have been reading your journal, too. Keep up the good work, you are doing great! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Welcome from another relative newbie to the board! The journey starts with a single step - and we've all taken that step, probably more than once!

You'll love the support and shared excitement on the board.

Deb

Welcome Joanne!
I don't do Atkins but I wanted to encourage you to go for a WATP tape! You can pick up just the1 or 2 or 3 mile tape at Target for $6.99. A very inexpensive piece of exercise equipment! :) If I had to pick only one, it would the 2 mile. You can easily stop at 15 minutes while you are building up to the full tape. Good luck and welcome to WISH!!! :Pinkbounc

Karebear1, I will check out ebay for the book. My neighbor is on Atkins, I might ask to borrow his book but I think it's probably best to own my own for reference purposes.

geetey, yes I am leaning toward buying the video's. I saw them at Target over the weekend & it's a lot less $$ than joining the "Y" or a gym. I just hope I can get up my motivation to use them.

Thanks for the Welcome's "losers"!;)

Welcome, Joanne!

I'm glad you are joining us on WISH. The folks on this board are so motivating and caring! It has been such an inspiration to me and I'm sure it will be for you, too.

Welcome to W.I.S.H.

The book you want is definitely the New Diet Revolution. Earlier this month, I found it (paperback version) at Target for only $9.76 plus tax. For that, I'm not sure it's worth looking on ebay, especially since you have to pay shipping and then wait for it to arrive. Believe it or not, my grocery bills have actually gone down since I started Atkins. All that junk I used to buy was more expensive than I thought, I guess. :teeth:

Like you, I started by reading the articles on the Atkins website. Even started Induction without the book. But I'm glad I picked up the book - it's helped a lot with motivation and also in understanding all of the rules. I'm in my 3rd week (decided to stay on Induction for awhile) and have lost 8 pounds so far. Think I am about ready to go down some more as I have beenat the same weight for almost a week, now. Feel good (first 2 days weren't so good, though) and have pretty much lost my desire for sugar and refined carbs like bread and pasta. I'm a diabetic and the Atkins way of eating has significantly improved my blood sugar levels - to the point that I have been able to eliminate some of my meds! HooRay!

Good luck to you. Looking forward to "talking" with you about Atkins here on the board. Let us know how you are doing!

Thanks, Carol. I will be heading to Target soon. That sounds like the book I need. I might as well p/u the WATP videos, too.:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Sounds like you are doing well on Atkins. I would love to hear some of your food ideas for induction. I have been eating a lot of cucumbers, eggs, some cheese & meats. I tried the mock danish for breakfast today & it was pretty good. A little rich for me in the morning, I don't like things to be too sweet for breakfast but I will make it again & just use less sweetner or a different flavoring.

Great advice everyone!:jester:

Joanne, I want to welcome you to WISH! I am so glad you decided to join us! I am not doing Atkins, but as you can see many of your fellow WISHer's are, and I can attest that they are a cool group and will be able to give you all sorts of advice and tips on that particular program. I am looking forward to getting to know you, and to hearing about your weight loss successes!

Linda
